I never complain in a restaurant which is maybe a British thing but I do write honestly reviews so here is one. We have eaten in many steak restaurants abroad and rating most of them very highly I was looking forward to a nice steak in a local location. The restaurant was busy on arrival, a good sign, we were shown to our table and our drinks order promptly taken, tick. Food order was soon after and the staff were efficient and polite. Starter of prawns in oil with garlic and a mixed mezze with flatbread arrived and was all very nice. Down sides at this point were only the lack of any water on table (or offer of). Starter over and cleared and there was just the right amount of time before our main course of filet steak arrived, both ordered as medium rare. This is where it fell down, expections were high as this is after all a steak restaurant and steak is what they do. Well in this case the steak was not medium rare but overly well done, both mine and my partners! I mused about sending it back but you just can't, can you, it ruins the night. So I ploughed on, meat was not that great and definitely burnt on the outside, the taste of which ruined anything good in the middle of the meat. Steak was served with one piece of asparagus (were they running short?) three cherry tomatoes and a very small flat mushroom. Probably could have done with a side salad for that mouth refresher. We were asked and did order more drinks, again service was polite and efficient. No after dinner mints/shots/coffee sometimes gratis and I know you can order these but it's sometimes just nice to be given that bit of extra when you are spending upwards of £100 on a meal. That's the extra "Deluxe" bit! Atmosphere is marked down as there were kids watching iPads all around us, not what I expect after 21:00 in a Deluxe restaurant setting. Overall I would sum this place up as having missed the mark by some way, could get there but needs changes. Disappointing as I was looking forward to finding a proper steak house on...
Read moreFirst of all looks very clean and expensive when you enter the restorant. We were 6 people and had fried liver, varity of steaks and beyti. Any single of us enjoyed their food, I love beyti so much and didnt have it for ages, was really looking for it, but o my god there was no taste in the food at all, I was just chewing stuff, and steak wasnt right type of steak which they excepted to change it, new one was better quality but again wasnt the type of steak we asked for. Or liver, one of the high lighted food and we asked for it, considering its gonna be delicious, but unfortunately it wasnt the best. The question is would I come here to eat my beyti again; no I wouldnt come all the way to Bideford to eat very average food with high prices. It is a shame couple of days before us my mother in law ate steak there and she liked it and we wanted to go all together again, but it wasnt right time or day for the kitchen I guess. (Beyti needs more yoghurt underneath and more flavour in the meat and more butter souce on top and also salad next to it left really unpleasant taste in my mouth, saying it as a turkish girl, I love tomato onion cucumber salad, but definetely that wasnt someting I enjoyed eating, I cant even tell you what was bad about it, but it was 😅 at the end no one was up for a desert, after knowing the cost of the food and not being happy we didnt want it, although künefe and katmer one of the best desert in turkish cuisine, but really difficult to catch that dreamy taste, so god knows how...
Read moreWe visited recently and were left incredibly disappointed. Starters arrived quickly, but the halloumi had a strange taste and the calamari was chewy and rubbery.
For mains, I ordered the tomahawk steak medium rare (£65!), and my wife ordered lamb chops well done. When the food arrived, my steak was nearly well-done—so overcooked that even my wife, who usually prefers well done, could’ve eaten it. On top of that, it was completely unseasoned and lacked any flavour. My wife’s lamb chops, on the other hand, came undercooked and bloody, with nearly half of them being just fat.
We asked for her meal to be cooked more, which they did—but they also re-fried the chips, making them extra greasy. I didn’t complain about my steak at the time because I knew a replacement would take 45 minutes, and I was hungry. Still, no one came to check on our meals during service.
When I raised the issue at the end and asked for a discount, I was told “tough” because I ate it—despite the fact that it was overcooked and flavourless, and I only ate it because I didn’t want to wait nearly an hour for a fix.
We spent £150 in total, and for that price, the food and service were unacceptable. We won’t be going back, and I’d strongly suggest others think twice before...
