A perfect place to start, our italian tomato & herb sauce, grated mozzarella, devon cheddar dressed - all our pizzas build off this base unless we call it out below or you'd like us to do otherwise...
Simply Veg
Simple but simply great... sliced chestnut mushrooms, mixed peppers and red onion (v)
Roasted Veg
Chunks of courgettes, red onions, chestnut mushrooms, mixed peppers slow roasted with garlic & balsamic vinegar (v)
The Blonde
Let's strip it back to a nude tomato free base but then smother with devon cheddar, feta, red onions and rocket - one of our favourites!
Pear & Blue
Another nude base where tomato makes way to devon blue and cheddar cheeses and feta topped with fresh pear & rocket (v)

What a wonderful place! After a long day of exploring Cornwall, my three companions and I were trying to find a late meal in Appledore, but every eatery had closed its kitchen. It was looking bleak for four hungry travellers. Then we came upon the Flame Factory, also preparing to shutter after a busy day. Their ovens were shut off, their tables cleaned and staff were finishing up. As we began to shuffle off, the manager ran after us. "The fryer's still on," she called. And we ordered up a simple feast: several fries with cheese and pulled pork with a couple spectacular fresh salads were utterly delicious and perfectly hit the spot. But most of all, thanks to the kind and solicitous manager and staff of the Flame Factory who stayed open a bit longer to feed strangers!

Our first visit to the Flame Factory and it certainly won't be our last! We tried booking but they were fully booked but we went anyway with the intention of sitting outside or having a take away. We arrived and it there happened to be a last minute cancellation so we got a table indoors. The staff were very friendly and ever so helpful with explaining which dishes were gluten free. I had my first gluten free pizza after not having pizza for a good 5 years. I could have cried I was so happy. The pizza was delicious and was washed down with a lovely gluten free larger! We have now found our new date night restaurant and when we have family and friends visit we will be bringing them to the Flame Factory. We cannot wait to come and see you guys again!

I wasn’t very sure about the pizza crust from the pictures I saw but trust me, it’s on point! We ordered take out a few days ago and it took them less than 15 minutes to prepare our order. The process of ordering was easy, the food was great! I had the roasted veg pizza with vegan cheese and my husband has a burger. The fries are great, which I always appreciate cause who wants soggy oily fries, right? Highly recommended and we will be back for sure! Ps. We believe we didn’t have any plastic in the packaging. Pizza of course in a box and the boxes that the burger and fries came in looked compostable which we reallllly appreciate! Excuse the photos, we were starving and halfway through the food when we remembered to take photos!

Took my daughter here for a 17th birthday meal, amazing restaurant very impressed. Lovely cosy warm feeling to the restaurant . The staff were amazingly friendly and couldn't do enough for you. We all only ordered pizza with sides of chips and garlic bread so can't comment on any of the dishes, but the pizza was delicious as we're the sides we ordered. My younger daughter who is 9 years old loved the fact that you could see the pizzas being made and cooked in the restaurant, something nice as you don't get it very often. The menu impressed me which I liked a lot was the whole menu was for kids too, they will do anything on the menu at a half size portion for children or adults with smaller appetites and then at half the price or the original on the menu, fantastic idea I'm a small eater and ordered a half size portion and it was the perfect size for me. You still get a whole pizza but just a smaller size to the main menu. We had a few slices of pizza left over at the end of the meal, and the staff happily put them in a takeaway box for us to take home, as they do a takeaway menu as well. Over all a brilliant restaurant and good value for money, as we live locally to the restaurant we will definitely be making a return...

Nice pizza, nice location, clean bathrooms. Very much enjoyed but....

Staff didn’t really know enough about ingredients, I love ‘regular’ dark brown anchovies, the ones embalmed in salt. So I asked the waiter if they had brown or white anchovies. He said he thought they were white, so I asked him to check, he then confirmed they were regular not white anchovies (I.e not the pickled kind). So I went ahead with a pizza plus anchovies order. When it arrived I was annoyed to find they were white anchovies. On complaining I was given another choice, which was very nice, but kind of spoiled the family meal.

Also the menu was wrong, ordering a large 70cl bottle of water for the family, as shown on the menu, a small bottle arrived, when questioned the waiter said “that’s what we serve” rather flippantly. I assumed I must have got it wrong.

Later when ordering desert I noticed the water was indeed 70cl.

The manager came over to apologise about the pizza anchovy mix up, and I also mentioned the water to which she said they recently changed the supply. She took on board my feedback to tell customers when ordering and was both friendly, polite and apologetic.

During our recent visit to The Flame Factory, we enjoyed a delightful family dining experience. Located on the scenic Appledore quay, this charming family-owned restaurant exudes warmth and hospitality.

From the start, the friendly staff made us feel at home in the rustic ambiance of the historic Georgian building, complete with views of the estuary. The menu featured a fantastic range of wood-fired pizzas, flame-grilled burgers, and Clovelly Longhorn steaks, along with thoughtful vegetarian and vegan options. I appreciated the gluten-free choices, including dedicated pizza bases and burger buns.

We sampled a bit of everything—the wood-fired pizza had a crispy crust and fresh toppings, the burgers were juicy, and the steak was tender and flavourful. Each dish reflected a commitment to quality.

Dessert was a highlight, with homemade treats that left us with sweet memories. Overall, The Flame Factory exceeded our expectations. It’s a wonderful spot for families to enjoy great food and create lasting memories. If you're in Appledore,...
