Took my daughter here for a 17th birthday meal, amazing restaurant very impressed. Lovely cosy warm feeling to the restaurant . The staff were amazingly friendly and couldn't do enough for you. We all only ordered pizza with sides of chips and garlic bread so can't comment on any of the dishes, but the pizza was delicious as we're the sides we ordered. My younger daughter who is 9 years old loved the fact that you could see the pizzas being made and cooked in the restaurant, something nice as you don't get it very often. The menu impressed me which I liked a lot was the whole menu was for kids too, they will do anything on the menu at a half size portion for children or adults with smaller appetites and then at half the price or the original on the menu, fantastic idea I'm a small eater and ordered a half size portion and it was the perfect size for me. You still get a whole pizza but just a smaller size to the main menu. We had a few slices of pizza left over at the end of the meal, and the staff happily put them in a takeaway box for us to take home, as they do a takeaway menu as well. Over all a brilliant restaurant and good value for money, as we live locally to the restaurant we will definitely be making a return...

Staff didn’t really know enough about ingredients, I love ‘regular’ dark brown anchovies, the ones embalmed in salt. So I asked the waiter if they had brown or white anchovies. He said he thought they were white, so I asked him to check, he then confirmed they were regular not white anchovies (I.e not the pickled kind). So I went ahead with a pizza plus anchovies order. When it arrived I was annoyed to find they were white anchovies. On complaining I was given another choice, which was very nice, but kind of spoiled the family meal.
Also the menu was wrong, ordering a large 70cl bottle of water for the family, as shown on the menu, a small bottle arrived, when questioned the waiter said “that’s what we serve” rather flippantly. I assumed I must have got it wrong.
Later when ordering desert I noticed the water was indeed 70cl.
The manager came over to apologise about the pizza anchovy mix up, and I also mentioned the water to which she said they recently changed the supply. She took on board my feedback to tell customers when ordering and was both friendly, polite and apologetic.

Read moreDuring our recent visit to The Flame Factory, we enjoyed a delightful family dining experience. Located on the scenic Appledore quay, this charming family-owned restaurant exudes warmth and hospitality.
From the start, the friendly staff made us feel at home in the rustic ambiance of the historic Georgian building, complete with views of the estuary. The menu featured a fantastic range of wood-fired pizzas, flame-grilled burgers, and Clovelly Longhorn steaks, along with thoughtful vegetarian and vegan options. I appreciated the gluten-free choices, including dedicated pizza bases and burger buns.
We sampled a bit of everything—the wood-fired pizza had a crispy crust and fresh toppings, the burgers were juicy, and the steak was tender and flavourful. Each dish reflected a commitment to quality.
Dessert was a highlight, with homemade treats that left us with sweet memories. Overall, The Flame Factory exceeded our expectations. It’s a wonderful spot for families to enjoy great food and create lasting memories. If you're in Appledore,...
