Ate at this restaurant last night as a party of 10 colleagues, with myself being the only non meat eater. We ordered a banquet with many different dishes, and my colleague requested that some vegan dishes be included. This seemed to astonish the waiter, and he asked who the vegan was. When I said it was me, he said "ah, an extremist!" and proceeded to conversationally attack me on my reasons for going vegan in front of my entire office.
I wasn't much interested in getting into the preachy details as this would have made my colleagues feel awkward, and as soon as I started to defend myself, my colleagues advised him not to pursue the discussion, to which he replied "it's OK, I have a good argument!".
His big argument was: VEGETABLES HAVE SOULS.
I am incredulous by this point, not only because my food choices were being criticised and mocked by a waiter during the ordering process, but because I couldn't believe he could come out with something so inherently stupid and not be joking. I asked him three times if he was serious, and each time he responded with a deadpan face that he was.
My colleagues cut off the conversation as I was just awkwardly laughing and I think they were nervous that I was going to let loose on him, as I am all for a bit of banter at my expense but I am also known to speak my mind when the occasion calls for it, and they could see that it was getting to that point.
I then had to put up with "how's the [milk dish] guys? good? you should tell her what she's missing!" and other similar comments throughout the meal.
The only reason we chose to eat at this restaurant was because of the selection of non-meat dishes for me, which is ironic considering the prejudiced and downright disrespectful service I had to endure. My colleagues all agreed that it was the most unprofessional and awkward service they had ever experienced.
The food itself was OK but nothing interesting, I had a spinach dish and a bit of salad.
If you're still wondering why I'm vegan, waiter, go and look up "dairy is scary" on youtube and then please tell me more about how I'm the...
Read moreAfter my first experience here I gave it a 5star, however, after a rather rushed Friday night here I've knocked it down a star. Upon booking a table we were not told of a time limit on the table and even on the day when the restaurant rang me to confirm i was still coming they didnt tell me that i only had the table for 1.5 hours. It was only once me and my party walked through the door at 6 30 that they advised we had to be out by 8. And they made sure we were. Service was rushed, waiter rolled his eyes when we asked could he just take starters for now and come back and take our main order - as one of the party had only just gotten there and hadnt even got her drink yet. The food was rushed out to us, starters were still on table and being eaten when mains were bought out. We weren't asked if we wanted desserts. And when plates were cleared (as they were hovering over us watching our every bite) we asked for the remains to be put in doggy bags - they came straight back with it and the bill and card machine (which wasn't asked for!) The table next too us said they had the same hospitality an didnt ask for their bill either but felt rushed the whole night. Shocked that when we went downstairs the restaurant was half empty so why they couldnt of seated us there and let us eat at a pleasurable pace. So my advice if you're booking here.... make sure you've got something for indigestion for afterwards and maybe request a table downstairs as apparently you get...
Read moreSorry to be the bearer of bad news we visited here last night yes some of us were late due to lack of parking having to walk the distance with children ( not restaurants fault ) but the way we were treated by what was supposed to be the manager was so unfair. 1 he was cleaning up as we were eating ( I know we were running late but when we got there we did tell the young lady to start serving as soon as we got there but that turned out to another half hour later. Then after good food there was an argument over the price of food which one person said one thing and another manager said another even though we thought we. Had clarified this before. When we offered to give a generous tip the manager who dealt with our table became very angry with the Birthday Girl telling us about how much he was out of pocket because the previous manager had told wrong prices for the children who may I say did not get children’s meals they had to share our food which was not a problem. We did tell the birthday girl to go to the one in Cheadle because they are so respectful there but it fell on deaf ears so it’s our fault really for eating here which I did not enjoy because I felt that I was not really wanted even though the total bill came to over £400 pounds. I organised a big 60th for my husband at the one in Cheadle and they were fantastic. I only had a great night because we were with great people and it was a birthday treat for my friend otherwise I don’t think we will be...
