Kitsu Sushi & Noodle Bar — Restaurant in Tunbridge Wells

Restaurant looked nice and staff were friendly and welcoming so we booked a table for dinner midweek.

We arrived on time and were seated upstairs. I hadn't expected the style of seating. It'd be difficult if you were wearing a short skirt or had any kind of mobility issues; there were tables downstairs.

We ordered our food and drinks with starters and a main course.

My starters arrived first then my main course. A few minutes later my partner received his main course and halfway through his starter arrived. It seemed a bit strange to me.

Anyway we ordered 1 X warm house sake to share. It arrived boiling hot couldn't touch the container.

SERVICE - Slow and difficult to get waitresses attention.

None of this is major just a bit off-putting for me personally.

Anyway food review. Chicken katsu curry with rice - not great, eatable, tasted a bit overdone and not crispy. okonomiyaki - seafood was fresh and cooked well. Nice pork belly iberico - tasty but for our taste very salty Miso aubergine - not fully cooked Nigiri - seabass and mackerel 'shime saba' EXCELLENT OUTSTANDING REALLY GOOD.

Really delicious sushi. I’m so glad there is finally a good sushi place in T Wells. As a coeliac i had turned up with spare GF soy sauce but didn’t need it as they had it and GF beer. However, if you are new to navigating restaurants with coeliac disease be careful, be explicit, ask questions. My friend and I had the taster menu which was great, I flagged that I was coeliac straight away but I still checked with the waitress before starting every course that it was gluten free. My 2nd plate and desert were not, and had it not been for my years of experience with dining out as a coeliac (and having a kid that is coeliac), I wouldn’t have seen the signs or been brave enough to question. Another fantastic experience. I came here about 4 months ago and the waiter recognised me when I came in and even recited my last drink order! I was blown away. It was so special being recognised. 🥹.

Food was again exceptional! I've been to a Michelin star sushi restaurant and I'd say this is about 80% of the way there. Each sushi is like a work of art. I had the chefs special.
