Nice earl grey tea. Lovely pink hot chocolate. Buttered toasted teacakes tasted of margarine. offish service. Anti-covid / covid-denial signs up which tbh put me off more than anything. Stayed out of politeness but wish I'd actually left. I won't go again. The appearance of being a friendly cafe is far from what it actually is which is a shame because it's in such a lovely location with seating in Jubilee gardens. Expecting a harsh response from K (see other reviews here - not mine btw) but, hey ho, plenty of other customer focussed tea shops in town.
Update: Kim responded in a way as expected. The offish service consisted of a few things: The actual server wasn't particularly welcoming to us or others. Yes, the covid denial / conspiracy signs were very off putting. As for deliberately trying to damage your business, that coudn't be further from the truth - I was just adding my honest opinion of what it felt like to be there. Perhaps I should have mentioned about the margerine taste but it certainly didn't taste like butter - perhaps a "spread".
Overall the tea shop provides good food and refreshment but I stand by what I said - it just didn't feel very friendly or welcoming.
I suppose I have different feelings about Covid - not just opinions as Kim has - as I have lost a number of friends to the virus, and many others severely affected so using the word "hysteria" with regards to this life destroying crisis is upsetting to me, and probably many others. No, I won't be visiting Kim's...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI used a baby wipe, their reaction was frankly astonishing and too dramatic to put into words really but involved retching and passive aggressive comments about hand sanitizer and how stupid people are. I tried to inform the owner that it was a baby wipe, which smells funny but is 99% Something water and used on my tiny baby, but they were blunt and said Kim had a reaction. There were no signs about water wipes, so who could have predicted?! I think the smell perhaps frightened her- happens to the best of us sometimes- got carried away.
I have very serious allergies and carry epipens... nearly actually died more than once and at no point during those experiences was i so chatty. I understand the plight and am sympathetic to an extent.
I am surprised this place is still open. Having read the other reviews... i am also surprised they want to run a business that involves speaking with other humans on a daily basis. I also wonder how clean the place is.
Teas are nice. The am-drams will not be to everyones taste. I should have walked out when they started insulting me loudly without actually speaking to me at all about it like a grown up and business owner should... nevermind.
Don't need a response. Won't read it. If you fancy a laugh, check out trip advisor or just any response...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis has been an interesting experience. We came upon this place and I give it two stars because the tea, cake and prices were good. As for the rest, let's say it's a rather different experience than usually had in other similar establishments. When we arrived we asked if there was a table for 2 in which we were responded to with a sit wherever you want (why did you even ask) type of reply. We didn't notice the signs at first and we respected the request of the proprietor. Running your own business is hard, but I found the customer service/friendless somewhat lacking, which made us feel uncomfortable and not entirely feeling welcome but we did not want to get up and leave either. - as that would be rude
It's a shame really as they had a wonderful selection of loose teas, the cake was nice, the venue was nice, but the service and signs (not the ones about santiser) but ones about anti COVID/face masks were very strange to us. No doubt this review will receive a less than happy response from the owner but I wish not to lie that this was an...
