I've been here 2-3 times in the last 5 years and eaten lunch here. The food is very good. They do table service, but manage to remain a proper pub rather than going "way gastro". A good beer selection, including Wadsworth's 6X, which it's unusual to find in this part of the country.

What a wonderful place to have a drink, lunch or diner. Great service, nice beers and off course the fish and chips. But I took the fish plate, a true advice to choose. Please make a reservation to have a great spot in the pub. I am looking forward for a next visit.

Was genuinely surprised. The food was far better than I thought it would be, and the atmosphere of the place was nothing short than amazing. I had the lentil soup and the sirloin steak salad. Both were a real treat.

What can I say? This slightly hidden secret is fantastic. The food doesn't even need too much discussion, always tasty, enough and good value. We have mostly had roasts (we keep coming back!) and it's always been great. Today, though, I want to focus on the amazing, caring service. It being mother's day (and me being less than organised for once! 😄), I contacted them by email the night before. I then phoned in the morning. They were fully booked but kindly suggested we could try calling a bit later to see. In the meantime, I got a similar lovely reply to my email. They confirmed a reservation, and then patiently and kindly answered my calls a couple of times and held it as we were delayed. That's before we even got to the service itself. So thoughtful, attentive, patient, kind, I could go on. Everyone at OEG is lovely and we will keep coming back (this is already the fourth or fifth time after discovering...

I popped in for a pint at 10:35pm Wednesday evening on the 21st of May, the closing time is 11pm, at just gone 10:50pm, I asked the girl serving what time the bar was closing, she said 11 and said 'I'm not serving anymore though', I still had a half a pint left in my pint mug, three other guys came up to the bar and she served them, I said to ger 'I thought you weren't serving anymore, she replied saying they booked it up, I'm sorry!, that's not acceptable, I don't know what her name is, she's blonde with a tattoo or two, I'm not...

This pub has great character and the food is faultless. However to describe it as "friendly" often misses the mark. It can be extremely frustrating to wait for the inner circle clique on the way too many barstools (which block access for non regulars, who are often left waving ineffectually like goldfish in a bowl) to be served before non regulars are attended to. Not all bad, but just eat and book a table. Going there just for a quick drink...
