My recent visit to the White Horse in Abingdon left me thoroughly disappointed. The standout issue that marred the entire experience was the abysmal service provided by the lady manager. Her attitude was not only unprofessional but also tinged with sarcasm, creating an unwelcoming and uncomfortable atmosphere.
From the moment I entered the establishment, it was evident that the lady manager's lack of hospitality skills would be a problem. Instead of greeting guests with a warm smile, she greeted us with an air of indifference. As the meal progressed, her attitude only worsened. She displayed little interest in ensuring our dining experience was pleasant, frequently disregarding our requests and showing a complete lack of empathy.
The lady manager's sarcastic remarks were particularly off-putting. Instead of addressing our concerns or rectifying any issues, she chose to respond with condescending and snide remarks. This behavior is completely unacceptable in a customer service setting and reflects poorly on the overall professionalism of the establishment.
Moreover, the overall service from the staff was lackluster.
It is disheartening to write such a negative review, as the White Horse has a reputation for its cuisine. However, the unpleasant experience due to the lady manager's terrible service overshadowed any positive aspects of the meal. Such poor customer service not only ruins the dining experience but also discourages repeat visits and damages the establishment's reputation.
I sincerely hope that the management of the White Horse addresses these issues promptly and takes the necessary steps to improve the overall service quality. Until then, I cannot recommend the White Horse to others based on my...
Read moreWent to the White Horse for the first time with husband for lunch midweek and was very impressed. Lads serving were very attentive, helpful and polite. Pub very cosy and welcoming. Only minus point was the ladies loo seat needed a bit of attention. All in all I thought it might make a nice change for the ladies get together that we have regularly in coffee shops in town, now that they're getting busy with Xmas shoppers. So checked with one of the lads that they opened at 11.00 on Saturday and that they wouldn't be so busy that I'd have to reserve a table. Suggested it to the others and they were happy with the idea. We all turned up at about 11.05 to find it locked and an elderly man waiting outside. Tried every door I could find and then tapped on the window as I could see a girl behind the bar. She just shook her head at me! Couldn't get any response out of her other than that, so one of the others suggested going to the Ock Mill where we had a good time. So the 2 stars I've given are: 5 stars for the first visit with my husband minus 3 stars for non-welcome...
Read morePretty disappointing. On arrival, there was no one at the bar to seat us for quite a while. When we were seated it took a long time for either of the waitresses to come and take our drinks order. The first softail I ordered was off, then the second was also off! Both times, the order was taken away, then the waitress returned. Once is a forgivable mistake, but when you find one drink is off perhaps check if any others are to avoid a repeat? They also didn’t have any orange juice, which meant another re-order. When we had booked our table, we were asked for a ‘non binding indication’ of what we would like our meals to be - but they started bringing starters out without checking the meals we’d ordered or if there were any changes. Which there were. So ordering was then a complete mess. Food itself was okay, but avoid the steak unless you want it very well done (even though the order was for medium rare). The staff weren’t rude, but you couldn’t say they were polite. A shame, as previously I’ve always found Greene Kings you...
