A very decent place. Has wheelchair access. Suitable for a person with autism.
This place has wheelchair access to both levels of the ground floor and an accessible toilet. I've been here several times. I think it's fairly good for a wheelchair user but I will list potential issues later.
The atmosphere was suitable for someone with autism because the pub has several levels and areas so the sounds dissipate fairly well. This is not an overly noisey pub even when busy. If you need a quiet area you will probably be able to find something as you have 4 areas on the ground floor, a garden and an upstairs.
There is no music here so particularly good for someone with autism or hearing difficulties.
The food is the usual standard of the Weatherspoons pub and they have several options so you will find something to suit you. It's cheap, which is why people use them. It's family friendly during the day and if you are using it at night then the drinks are cheap and so are food and snacks. You can stay there a long time. No one will throw you out. Dinner is served till 11pm.
My son wore his sunflower lanyard and clumsily dealt with the orders. The staff were nice enough. They accepted both kids autism which is fairly visible. Having said that the bar tender had a disability - so that probably helped.
Admittedly on the date I am writing this review the wheelchair accessible doors weren't open and the bell to alert the staff wasn't working. However, the locals let me in and alerted a staff member to the broken lift. As it goes the alarm system to alert the staff member that the lift was broken was also broken! The staff member called seemed entirely unaware of these issues and then seemed angry with me for bringing them up. This was entirely offset by the friendlies of the locals who seemed to be apologising on the pubs behalf.
There is an issue with using the small lift to the upper level of the lower floor (only 3 steps up) and that is that you chair can easily be longer than the actual space needed to load the chair in!!!! I've used my daughter's Rollz Motion to illustrate the issue. Even worse is if you have a family sitting there when you need to use the loo as they will have to move! In all my time coming here though - this has only happened to me once. However, in order to use that corner seat with my Q200r (which is a very small chair) I had to actually park my chair partly on the ramp in order to eat at the table!
Otherwise I can't really complain...
Read moreLove this chain. Props to the owner for keeping the prices as low as poss (Ruddles @ £1.49 a pint) can’t beat that. That is cheaper than before the pre-planned-emic 😊🤛
The zero star award (if I could give one) goes to the manageress on shift who refused her bar staff (nice young chap on shift) to serve me another pint of the golden stuff 🍺🍺 reason being my road bike was on site (no lock on me, hot afternoon just done 49miles in 29’C).
To put you in the picture, all the lovely reviews readers, it’s Sunday evening around 7.30pm. The place is dead. And I mean pepper dead, there are maybe 10% tables occupied. And she goes: I have to remove the bike from the premises. I goes: I dont have a lock. She: this poses danger to other customers. I: what danger? It’s completely out of the way and not endangering anybody. I even entered via disabled entrance for safety ;) silence, she blushes, but is in charge, shows authority, follows policy 🤦
Shame on you. You just lost a custom. And for sure lost trust of your staff. Because of people like you the pub industry is dying.
But hey, you’re in...
Read moreHi there, My friend and I came into your pub this evening and tried to order a drink, I had forgotten my ID and the brunette lady behind the bar quite rightly refused to serve me in the first instance due to this, I popped home to get my ID and was treated in such a way that deeply disappointed me. I showed her two forms of ID stating I’m 29 years old, she reviewed it for quite some time. I politely asked if there was something wrong with the ID to which she replied “I don’t have to serve you if you’re going to be rude” I replied “okay” in a confused state, to which she said “calm down” in a very rude and aggressive tone. I felt so uncomfortable by her behaviour towards me and my friend that I was too embarrassed to stay. We then proceeded to ask her name and she replied “none of your business”. I have been to this pub many times and have never been treated in such a disgusting manner.
I hope this email will be taken seriously, as I do not believe that someone with this attitude towards customers should be the face of your...
