I went for a dinner with my friends last night because we all love Thai food! In the restaurant, a staff called Lim was so cheerful and welcoming, such a shame that rest all do not have the insight of business strategy; they do not understand neither what the customer is asking with them nor how to provide hospitality to them. I pity for the person who runs this business! The team lead for that night was so rude and we couldn't notice a smile on her face towards customers rather she was like a warden for the prisoners and her body language also fit for that, she bossed up with us for choosing our menu and the worst part was she could not let us enjoy those yummy food prepared by the Chef who gives all his best inside the kitchen! ***************************************************************** * Beautifully made BUFFET card with no description * Give all your energy to communicate with the staff *Buffet for 17.50 but you cant choose how much quantity you want; if you are unable to finish the starters then the next meal is not served (AWFUL) * Vegetables mixed with Egg called "Vegetarian" * Check your final bill, don't be wonder if you receive a wrong one ********************************************************************** If you love Thai food from here please make a take away Only Ms Lim's smiling face made me to hold back and finish my dinner.. You are a star dear!! ======================================================= I read the response from the owner which was utterly not acceptable. The main reason for all these issues I believe poor communication of the staff. We specifically requested to bring one piece in each from the veg starters for my friend who is a vegetarian and but she received a plate which can be shared by 4 persons ( see my posted picture). We have requested not to mix the prawns in the non-veg starters because one of my friends was allergic to that otherwise we were happy to have the non-veg starters but we couldn't finish because some pieces were too oily. We 100% know that we were having BUFFET and this is not our first life time experience but the staff was not willing to serve the main menu, we have left with no other choice than saying that we can take it out and bin it but we were not fancy for taking away those bits to home. I asked the young girl who served our table that what is her name and she said Lim.. if I dint get her name properly but still I wanted to give my compliment to her though she is not good at excellent communication. If your staff is cheating on silly things then I definitely believe your business is fake!! ======================================================

Chaba Thai has become one of our favourite places to eat in Abingdon. Tonight we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. We ate from the all you can eat menu, which is cooked to order for the number of people at the table. You can have starters, soups, possibly salads? and main dishes. You can keep ordering from each course until you decide to move on, but can't go back once you have. So, make sure you've had enough tempura prawns before you do! The food is always incredible and not over priced. The staff are very polite, friendly and accommodating. We ate in the downstairs restaurant area and I love the eclectic, travel based decorations/photos/maps. It is very clean and the staff are quick to clean tables and clear dishes. I would however recommend a shall or cardigan if wearing something sleeveless or thin. They have a fantastic aircon unit which is lovely when the restaurant is full but if you are there later in the evening, the number of people in the room tends to decrease and it becomes a little chilly. As that is the only negative I can think of, and I'm already looking forward to my next visit/takeaway, it goes without saying that, I highly recommend this restaurant. I have done to many people in the past, who have all be very happy I did.

Good food at reasonable price. This Thai restaurant is clearly run by those from Thai heritage and the food reflects that. We had prawn crackers and sweet chilli dip. Veg spring rolls and duck with pancakes for starters. I had prawn red curry, himself had chicken and cashew nuts, we also had veg egg fried rice and chips. Plus a beer and house red wine. The bill was £71 (without the tip we added). The restaurant was clean and service prompt. Our only (small) dissatisfaction was that it felt we were close to another table and it felt a little awkward - as the restaurant wasn’t yet full and we were conscious of potentially having our conversation overheard. 4.5 overall 🙂

They set the standard and expectations for the night by trying to rip us off soon as they started to take our order.

If on the menu you have wine served by glass - 175ml/250ml , you shouldn’t blatantly lie to people that you “don’t have a small glass”. So you are trying to tell me that you cannot pour 175 ml in the wine glass, but you can pour 250ml ?! For every wine on the menu that is served by glass gentleman replied that it’s not possible to serve 175ml, 250 only, although 175ml was clearly on the menu. When questioned about the house wine on the other side of the menu with exactly the same thing 175/250, gentleman replied that one is possible to serve 175ml ?! Wine that was brought to us was exactly the same we originally wanted to order just under the name “house wine”?! Gentleman obviously wanted to rip us off but run of out of excuses when we asked for the house wine. Weird experience.

We noticed that we were treated differently in comparison to local people who are obviously frequent customers. People who arrived after us received their food quicker than us.

Lady member of the staff at the reception was unwelcoming and unfriendly. That is not the way you are treating paying customers. Both members of the staff mentioned in this review were working upstairs.

It was our first and obviously last time in this restaurant. Avoid. EDIT: Restaurant’s reply proves my point: Avoid. I know what I saw on the menu.Gentlemen wasn’t right, because wines I am talking about were clearly served by glass too, with both prices listed, price for 175 ml and price for 250ml, otherwise we wouldn’t try to order them. That is what is on the menu.I am repeating, gentleman said: these wines are served only 250ml. I know very well what I’ve been told and what I saw. Again, I don’t know how lady treats others, but she was unwelcoming and unfriendly with us.When someone smile at you- you smile back, when someone say :Hi, you say:Hi, that’s common courtesy. Instead she gave us the look soon as we got in,when she brought the starters she slammed them on the table. Which is even worse if she actually owns the place. I am not sure what else you want me to provide to you via email that is not already written here. EDIT2 : To avoid going back in circles, I will repeat again, read carefully: Wine menu : prices listed are per glass 175 ml/ 250 ml and a bottle - when we wanted to order 175ml, gentleman insisted that we can order ONLY 250ml and that restaurant “doesn’t have 175ml”. On the WINE LIST besides prices for the bottle, you have prices per GLASS 175 ml and 250 ml too and that wasn’t house wine . Surely we wouldn’t order glass if is listed as a bottle only ,right?! When we challenged him and asked him “what about house wine” he responded that ONLY house wine could be served as a glass 175 ml, but all other wines are 250 ml only?! Which of course doesn’t make any sense. That’s the whole story.Correct the menu if you don’t want to serve 175ml but don’t lie that you cannot serve 175 ml but you can serve 250ml in the same glass. That’s the end of story. We are not going back to this restaurant anyway, we just want to warn others to don’t make the same mistake. EDIT 3 : Management had deleted their original response where they challenged me and what I’ve read with my own eyes, although I’ve explained everything in great detail. Your apology would make sense only if you actually left your original response so others can see that you are...

Response to the most ridiculous and rude response I got from owners, no wonder this place gets lots of 1 star reviews. No I didn't have covid and nor did my girlfriend. Your response to my review shows you have zero customer service skills and dont care about what people think about you. I suggest if anyone reads this avoid this place like the plague. Go to Hugomango a bit further up the road where you will be treated with great customer service and the best proper thai food in Oxfordshire. Ahh once again this owner finds it impossible to to actually apologise. The potatoes were not the bad bit it was the fact that it didnt taste of anything we had to add a salt. I'm an ex chef and it was awful I do know the difference. Instead of blaming everything on something else take some responsibility for your own bland food and also stop arguing with previous customers it's not a good look. Yes I am a customer of Hugomango because their food is exceptional and they treat customers with respect. I'm not the only one star review and also several complaints of your rudeness. Shocking to say the least! Yes I think anyone reading this will see the owners inability to apologise and take some criticism. That in any business is not how to treat customers. A simple apology and a promise of better experience next time would have been advisable. To actually accuse me of having covid-19 something that killed 100,000 of people and millions globally shows your lack care and also contempt for anyone that tries to be honest about your food....
