ASK Italian - Abingdon — Restaurant in Vale of White Horse

The only reason I'm giving 2 star rating is due to the fact that the chefs were absolutely amazing with the food we had. It was my surprise birthday and expectations were quite high as we had eaten there before and had heard also that the food was amazing. And staff friendly and welcoming. What didn't happen is the service was terrible the waitress took our order for our starter told part of the table that it was better to order the desert at the end and the other part of the table she took there desert order. She then disappeared and we had to beckon another waiter so we could order drinks . Otherwise we were being ignored. When we had finished one of the managers had told us we couldn't split the bill as we hadn't mentioned it when we booked the table. He was being confrontational and it took me telling him one of the waiters was at the till with my friend sorting the bill out for the manager to say he needed to talk to him. The waiter Daniel who in my view went above and beyond sorted the whole situation out in a professional manner unlike the 2 managers who was too busy avoiding our table and didn't even acknowledge us on our exit from the restaurant Instead all we had from them was dirty looks . Dreadful customer service from the moment we walked through the door.waiting staff aplenty but very disorganised. Told no table available unless we sat by door as they were fully booked. Looked around only 4 tables occupied! Started walking out then another table found but the place was expected to be full within 30 mins. 1hr.45 mins later, place still not full, but in that time we waited to be served, waited and had to ask for our drinks twice, waited to get more drinks and ordered a desert that never came but neither did the second drink. Decided to leave to get desert and drink from convenience store as we were by now thirsty,. Coats on, then couldn't believe we had to wait for someone to come to the till so that we could pay the bill, even though several staff were hanging around ( see photo). As regular customers of Ask Italian in other towns and cities i can only advise the public to be prepared for the poor customer service and don't expect to want to visit the place...

Just had a lovely lunch with my wife and wanted to shout out the amazing service and food. We sat outside to enjoy the sunshine, great spot with a relaxed vibe.

Maria took care of us and she was absolutely brilliant. Super attentive, warm, and made the whole experience feel personal and easy. Molly also did a great job, especially with dessert, both Maria and Molly really stood out with how genuine and thoughtful they were.

We had the Antipasti Board for our main, with Cheese Fondue and Honey Luganica Sausages on the side, everything was delicious. Huge credit to Chef Fikki for the beautiful presentation and flavors; you can tell care went into each dish.

Finished off with the Caramello Chocolate Torta, which was rich and indulgent, exactly what we were after. Great food, great service, and the kind of experience that makes you want to come back. Thanks again to Maria and Molly for...
