Calder and Hops — Restaurant in Wakefield

Firstly our meal was 45minutes, my partner order chicken tikka masala, which after 15 minutes was told there was no rice this should ov been done at the point of ordering,he was offered chips which was OK, bit disappointed to be fair and when only finding 3 pieces ov chicken in the dish it was more so disappointed, yhe 3 adult meals came first leaving my grandchildren sat waiting , we had to go to the bar to ask for yhier meals I'm sure uou can imagine they were unhappy with this, when they arrived thier was still items missing which we had to wait even longer for, ie onionrings and gravy, at this point the server stated the desert was not available and was offered another,which the server should know at the point of ordering, so one dessert was brought right away,(icecream) which it should not of been where children obviously they don't want there main meal,which happened, and yhen we have another distraught grandchild as she hadn't recieved her doughnuts 20 minutes later and a meltdown I went to the bar to retrieve the doughnuts which were that hard she vouldnt eat them, we were never approached yo see how are meal was as I would of voiced my opinion, service was very poor,food inadequate, and after paying the politeness ended,very very...

Approx 12:15pm on Fri 27 Sep. It's a good job for the place that I'm not a 'Mystery Diner'! It's also good (for me) that I had a 30% off main meal voucher! There were only 12 to 15 people in with 2 staff (+ chef(s)?) present. Service at the bar was good (apart from having no Staropramen lager). I ordered an 8oz sirloin steak to be cooked medium rare and took my seat. I had to ask for the table to be cleared, which it was apart from a used coffee cup and saucer. At the time of clearing, the table wasn't cleaned (wiped down) which I had to ask to be done later! My meal arrived, the steak, although tender with little fat, was cooked 'medium', the chips were barely lukewarm, the peas, mushrooms and onion rings were 'ok'. First time visiting Wakefield and found this pub and became a favourite straight away due to the atmosphere and the food. Lovely staff and service from everyone.

It had a drag disco and Karaoke on the Friday night but the music is not too loud like in some venues, they got the balance just right so you can still talk to each other.

Ordering food was super simple as every table had a QR code to scan which too you to their menu and you simply put in your table number and selected what you wanted then paid with Apple Pay. The food arrived within 25 mins and was really good.

I recommend their pies, had both the Steak and Ale and the Chicken and mushroom over two nights.

Highly recommend this pub if you want a great night out with good food at a reasonable price. I will...
