Robatary has a lovely warm feeling when you walk in and has a lovely decor. The gentlemen at front of house was nice enough to deal with us and greet us with a warm welcome. We was seated in our seats which was a lovely setting, however it was quite cold. We was then left seated for 20mins which felt longer before we was then asked if we wanted drinks after 2 people had come in 5mins after us and had already had their order taken and drinks given to them. We ordered the tempura king prawns which I would say were not King in fact they were more medium sized prawns but were nice enough and presented well along with a very nice sauce. Again we also ordered the salt and pepper chicken wings and Halloumi fries. The chicken wings were very nice, hot tasty and a nice size and decent portion. Halloumi fries never turned up only to find that they hadn't read the order properly and had missed them so again we asked where they was and they was soon brought out to us. These were very nice, hot and fresh and the dipping sauce was a nice flavour that went really well with the halloumi fries. I would recommend that these were enough for 2 people as a portion unless you have a big appetite then you will manage them yourself. We all ordered the beef Sunday Lunch which was presented very well, very hot and fresh. This came pink as requested along with cabbage, carrots, Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and for some strange reason, celery and beetroot slices which I found strange along with tender stem broccoli and green beans. Gravy was lovely the food itself was nice too. Service wasn't on point we spoke for around 10 to 15mins till the plates were taken away and again asked if we wanted dessert 10 to 15mins later. Myself and my Mrs ordered Chocolate fudge brownie. This was very well presented, however looks can be deceiving and unfortunately this was not what I expected. I found it too stodgy, crispy round the edges no flavour to it at all and if anything tasted like cardboard and was far too chewy. Overall I was disappointed a little to say the least, there wasn't enough staff to waiter the tables, one girl seemed to be doing all the work herself and covering for the other lad who was also working himself. This let the restaurant down if I'm honest as well as the mixed veg and salad on a Sunday roast. I have had good reviews from friends who have eaten here before hence the reason why I tried but I can honestly say I may come again but next time for the actual Japanese dishes to see if this is on par...

The first time I came to this restaurant, it was incredible and definitely worth a 5 star rating. However, having visited for the second time in less than 6 months the menu had been rewritten and made extremely confusing to vegetarians. At first glance it looks great as there's lots of (V) symbols on the menu, but when you read the listed ingredients to some of the "vegetarian" dishes they have things like Crab meat, and parmesan, to which I asked if it is vegetarian parmesan and explained that if the parmesan had renet in it, then it is not vegetarian making the Mac and cheese bon bons NOT vegetarian, even though they are listed as vegetarian!
When I read the ingredients of some of the (V) listed food options to the waitress, she said "oh yeah that's not vegetarian".
Then when you start to look at the rest of the menu, there are things that are obviously vegetarian not listed as vegetarian. It made choosing a meal extremely difficult and I felt like a nuisance asking the waitress all these questions and she kept having to go ask the chefs.
I questioned the menu with the waitress and some of the response was "I was off the day they changed the menu" which I understand but surely the staff should know the menu? I thought as a restaurant it was their responsibility to ensure that customers knew what they were eating. It made me very anxious eating my food, and I also thought about people with allergies eating here might also feel anxious.
The food this time round was ok, it wasn't anything to rave about but definitely didn't match the price tag! I had the ramen with tofu at £14 and I thought the Weatherspoons version was much better! I also didn't finish it.
The staff weren't massively attentive, my friend had finished their drinks with their starter and they didn't ask if we wanted anymore drinks. Whilst we were waiting for the bill, the staff were stood talking and swearing quite loudly.
I think this experience of anxiety and service has ruined the restaurant for us sadly! We were so excited to return after our first visit being top tier, but now I'm happy no not return.
I didn't feel that dietary requirements may that be vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, and any allergies were taken seriously by...
Read moreAttended on a Sunday afternoon. The restaurant was less than a quarter full. The car park across the road is free on a Sunday and just a two minute walk away. There is parking on the road outside the restaurant, but spaces are limited.
This restaurant doesn't know what it wants to be and as a result it doesn't quite do it's dishes justice. Are you Indian, Japanese, English, Thai... What? Don't get me wrong, it's edible, but it just didn't stand out. I feel they were trying to offer too much variation in the menu and not able to really focus down on getting each dish spot on.
Starters average £8-9 and are tiny. Mains thankfully have better portion sizes and offer better value for money. However, I actually got bored eating the ramen noodles and left half of it, it was uninspired and the amount of meat was minimal. I would of been lucky if there was half of one small chicken breast worth of meat in it. I suggest they cut down the bowl size and increase the meat content for that dish?
Sadly, the toilets were a bit of a mess, I nearly slipped over on the tiled floor. The restaurant wasn't particularly busy, so I've no idea how long it had been that way. They just need to step up their toilet inspections and that would take care of that issue.
On the way to the bar you pass the kitchen. Weirdly there was a pile of Yorkshire puddings on the draining board (I'm hoping they were just there ready to throw away and not actually stored there). There were also pans, half full of food and covered in black carbon just laid all around. If I had noticed the state of the kitchen when I walked in, I may not have stayed to eat. Surely when your kitchen is on display you at least make an effort to keep it clean and tidy?
This restaurant has potential to be so much better. I'm not saying anything new either, several people have already said many of the points I've raised. Management just need to take note.
On a plus point, the staff are lovely. Thank you for...
