Very disappointed. Service not friendly at all, I ordered an elderflower tonic and they gave me an elderflower pressé. When I said that wasn't what I ordered the waiter (I think he was the manager/supervisor) said with bad expression that it was a tonic with elderflower, but nowhere in the bottle said it was a tonic. Once I got to the table I noticed the glasses were dirty and had marks of lipsticks. My partner went in to ask for clean ones and a bad face was given in response before changing the glasses. Once I got a clean glass I tried their "elderflower tonic" and there was no taste of tonic in that drink so I looked in the label for quinine (what tonic is made with) and no quinine on the label so I went back to the bar and apologised for being a pain but I wanted a tonic and that wasn't a tonic water. The response was again that it was a tonic followed by a funny face. I replied that I didn't want it and if it was possible to have just a normal tonic. After a few minutes the waitress arrived with a bottle of elderflower tonic!!! The drink I asked for at the beginning! No apologies at any point and bad faces were given all the time. For your information: Elderflower pressé is a sweetened, carbonated soft drink. Elderflower pressé is therefore similar to citron pressé and lemonade, and effectively a premixed form of elderflower cordial. Tonic water (or Indian tonic water) is a carbonated soft drink in which QUININE is dissolved. Originally used as a prophylactic against malaria, tonic water usually now has a significantly lower quinine content and is consumed for its DISTINCTIVE BITTER FLAVOR.
No receipt was given when I ordered and pay and no apologies for the mistake or refund for the extra money I paid for the drink I didn't ask for which was more expensive.
Food was ok but nothing exceptional and again bad service with the food, asked for steak cooked medium but it was well done. We where sat down outside, when the food arrived no cutlery was given and the waitress didn't tell us where to get it from and it wasn't somewhere where customers could get it. Had to go back to the bar and ask for cutlery and wait again while the food was getting cold (it wasn't a sandwich so needed cutlery).
After that nobody came to do a check back to see if food was alright or if we needed anything else or to clear the plates after we finished (I know is not table service but not even a minimum was given). The worst thing is that they didn't do anything for change the situation of an unhappy guest. Service made us feel not welcome and showed no knowledge about the products they sell and very poor guest service skills.
I wanted to try this place every time I visited Newmillerdam but it ruined our day out...
Read moreGreat friendly local Pub. In the summer of 2017 i took this photo of the Cenotaph in Newmillerdam and had it made into a canvas for Dad’s birthday. - He loved Newmillerdam and lived there all his life. - In his words, Newmillerdam Born, Bred, Wed and Dead!! 🤣 - In January 2016 he underwent a botched operation on his left leg which resulted in it being amputated and then confined to a wheelchair. Later that year in june Mum found out she was ill and passed away just 12 weeks later. - Dad was left alone and isolated, unable to get out of the house. I had this picture made into a canvas and put it up above the fireplace and he absolutely loved it! He said it reminded him of being sat next to the Cenotaph looking out across the dam. The place he grew up in. The lake he learned to swim in with his brothers. It reminded him of happier times! In November 2017 Dad passed away. We cleared the house and i was wondering what to do with this picture. - Too big for my house really.
Over the past few months I’ve become a regular at The Dam Inn, Newmillerdam. The Cenotaph is situated just outside the pub and i just happened to be talking to Josh the manager about Remembrance Sunday, and asked him if he thought the picture might be something suitable for the pub? He agreed, and I’m now happy to say that Dads picture is proudly displayed in the Dam Inn!! Dad would’ve been absolutely thrilled that his picture is being enjoyed again in the pub which incidentally he had his very 1st pint of beer in aged Ninteen! Would just like to thank Josh and the team at the Dam Inn. I will remember my Dad every...

Came to this pub at 2pm on Sunday as we wanted to walk around the surrounding areas. Came through one of the many side doors to the pub and didn’t really know where to go first. Ordered from the bar and the guy was friendly, told us where to go for a table. Lady at the reservation stand said it was an hour wait on food/a table which was fine apart from we could see at least 5 empty tables. (We understood this was booked in advance). We were told that if you wanted you could take a “bar table” but we’re never told where the divide ended from restaurant to bar. An hour has passed and couples/groups who came after us were seated first, even though we knew they had no reservation.
3pm - eventually seated at a wet table and told nothing about carvery/ordering. 3:15 waitress came over and asked for our order, stated we wanted Carvery and were told to just go up. Frustrating that the lady seating people couldn’t tell us this first. Carvery was nice though, apart from the fatty meat which had to remove into a side bowl and the rude chefs. Having an allergic reaction to cranberry I asked if all 3 gravy’s had cranberry’s in as the sign stated that was the speciality. Chef said “whichever one is next to the sign is the special, I don’t know what the special is though”
Numerous staff kept walking past us which was confusing to how poor the service was, 3 of them just stood and chatted around a till for 10 minutes. Empty plates everywhere. If they cleaned tables quicker they’d have a better table turnover. Food was nice but not enough to warrant coming back due to the...
