On Saturday 16th March myself and two Sisters took our Mother to La Fortezza for a Mothers Day meal. We were told when booking that there were two sittings, 6.00pm and 8.30pm. We chose the earlier sitting as our Mother doesn't like to eat late. We were there on time and shown straight to our table. At 6.50pm we had still not received our starters so we sked a waitress who said few more minutes. At 7.00pm we still not received any food even though one of the starters was only a garlic bread and the other a Bruchetta. It was 7.10pm before 3 out of the 4 starters arrived followed 5 mins later by the Garlic bread. We had just finished our sweets when my sister ordered a drink from the bar as we still had wine to finish. The waitress sent the Manageress over who said they would not serve my Sister with this drink as it was 8.30pm and we had to leave as people were waiting for the table!! We did point out that we hadn't been served until 7.10pm to which she agreed but said we still had to go! After lots of protesting she finally agreed to knock off the bill one bottle of wine. This wasn't offered we had to fight for it plus as we weren't being allowed to finish it I thought it was the least they could do. This spoilt what we wanted to be a special evening for our Mother and we certainly will not be going back. Oh and they haven't even bothered to reply to my e-mail of complaint which to me is bad...

We tried here because of the good reviews. But don’t be fooled. We arrived at 5:50 and we got our drinks 15 mins later. We didn’t get our food order taken until 30 minutes later. We got our starters which were actually quite nice. We then waited another 30 minutes (which I know isn’t too bad) for our mains to come, for them to bring out my main but my partners main came wrong. So we sent it back and were told it would only be 4/5 minutes (was just a pizza). About 10 minutes later if not longer I had eaten my main and my partners food still hadn’t come. When his pizza eventually came, it was a sloppy mess. All the toppings (chicken and ham) were everywhere just fell off the pizza onto his plate. I tried a slice and it was awful. When his food did come, there was barely any room on the table. Table was about as big as a 2 pence coin. I had the biggest bowl for about 4 scoops of carbonara. We had a portion of chips. His plate for the pizza was huge, hanging off the edge of table. Surprised the sloppy mess didn’t end up falling on his knee. Service was shocking. When we were waiting for our mains, a waiter came over asking if we wanted to see the pudding menu??? I wasn’t offered Parmesan for my pasta either. We asked for the bill and they were straight over with it, shame they wasn’t so efficient with the food, clearly just wanted the money. Overall just an absolute waste of...

We were looking forward to a family meal with my parents from London as La Fortezza had been recommended to us by two local friends. A lovely lady greeted us and showed us to the table we had booked. The restaurant was buzzing and busy. On waiter seemed to be unfamiliar with the small wine list and interrupted to clear the table later when not everyone had finished. The other staff were proficient but inattentive. We ordered water (with the main drinks) and had to ask for it again. If the food had been good, all these niggles would have been forgotten. Unfortunately, the food was unseasoned and bland. The starters: prawn cocktail, ribs, rice all and minestrone soup needed more flavour . The ragu had been recommended by the lady who first greeted us. The tagliatelle was overcooked and the sauce had no wine, seasonings or flavour. I had a pizza with artichoke, olives and ham. I’ve had better from the Co-op! My dad liked his fish but there was too much of it. This meal worked out as £31 per person which is not a cheap meal - our weekly shop!. It was supposed to be a treat and turned out to be an embarrassment. We didn’t complain as no one bothered to ask us how the meal was and no one said goodbye or checked if the meal was ok as we left. We won’t be back. Should have gone to The Fox and...

Updated Review 28/05/23 My wife and I came here again, and I am still impressed with the food, service, and prices. Our next visit will be with our son and in-law. ‐------------------------------------------------------------------------- From the moment you walk in to here it feels welcoming, the staff are polite and attentive, can not fault any one of them. A lot of restaurants could learn a thing or two from the staff here! Now to the food, we have eaten here before, but it just gets better! Everything was superb, cooked to perfection, in fact I would say it is the best Italian I have ever eaten at. Thank you for a great meal and a great service, you and your staff should be proud. We will see you again.

La Fortezza is a picturesque building next to Newmillerdam, everything else however was relatively average unfortunately, it's not complaint worthy though. So to elaborate on my view, here are some concise thoughts: 1. I got a selection of breads as a starter, was incredibly basic, no olive oil or balsamic vinegar to go with it so very dry. 2. Fillet steak was pretty good, cooked well. 3. Desert was ice cream with meringue pieces on, again wasn't special, came with a limoncello shot on the side, I mean it is what it is. Service wise, everyone was friendly and attentive, they didn't quite get one of our order correct, but nothing to complain about. All in all it was okay

Absolutely wonderful evening at La Fortezza. Great vegetarian options; the staff even let me have a vegetarian calzone despite it not being on the menu. Fine for those with peanut allergies, and great selection of desserts. The atmosphere was lovely but the thing that made La Fortezza stand out from all of the other restaurants was the service. We were served by a lovely girl with silver hair and another girl with curly hair. Both of them were absolutely wonderful and made us feel so comfortable, being kind and personable and never making us feel rushed. We’ll be going back purely because of that- the girls are an asset to the restaurant and made our evenings fantastic!
