Whaaat a lovely place this is! Exceptional staff who were warm n welcoming, polite and friendly. The café is in a lovely building on the side of the lake and is very dog friendly. I visited on a sunny day and it was very busy. There was a small queue as you need to wait to be seated, but twas not a long wait at all. There is outdoor seating, indoor seating and more outdoor seating upstairs on the terrace. Pleasant decor, though personally am not a fan of the garish, plastic foliage outside. I sat inside but my seat was a bit sandy and gritty, as though dawglets had sat on it previously. I hope not! Paws on floors, please. It made such a pleasant change to not only find a café open later in the day, but also one that was still serving and not battening down the hatches over an hour before closing. Much appreciated and very welcome too was the refreshment. The lass who served me was a treasure, sorry I didn't get your name. No cakes left!! Gutted. Ahhh well, that just means a return visit will be in order, hee hee. However there were some pastries left so I had a cinnamon swirl which was divinely yummy. I sampled the speciality hot chocolate with honeycomb and I would definitely have another one of those again. But it did have a taste of orange in the last couple of mouthfuls which was a bit odd. A very pleasant little sojourn, great location, fab views, lovely staff, win win all round.

A Quick Stop at The Boathouse with A Mixed Experience! On a recent visit to Newmillerdam, we decided to stop by The Boathouse for a quick drink and some cake. The location of the establishment is certainly one of its biggest draws – situated right by the dam, it offers stunning views of the surrounding scenery. Upon arrival, we found the staff to be a bit rushed off their feet, understandably so as the sun was shining and the place was bustling with visitors. Despite this, they were still friendly and took our order efficiently. The drinks we ordered were tasty and hit the spot, but if I had one critique, it would be that they could have been a tad colder, as a warm Milkshake doesn’t go down that well. The cake selection looked delicious, and our choices did not disappoint. They were well-presented and satisfyingly indulgent, making for a pleasant treat during our outing. What truly makes The Boathouse Newmillerdam a great place to visit is its perfect positioning. With the dam right outside and picturesque views all around, it's an ideal spot to relax and take in the natural beauty of the area. Whether you're looking for a quick refreshment or a longer stay to soak in the beautiful views, the Boathouse Newmillerdam provides a delightful experience. Just be prepared for a bustling atmosphere and maybe a slight wait on a sunny day.

It's a great cafe in a gorgeous location. It's right on the waters edge and has outside seating also on the waters edge with no fence, I wonder if the servers ever fall in! The views are fabulous. The menu is quite large and includes vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options. The prices are reasonable and the food was delicious, especially the chocolate cake 😋. The service was fast and friendly. It is a popular place and there was a small queue, but I only waited around 5 minutes. Definitely worth the wait. There is a car park by the main road but then you have to walk around 5 minutes to the cafe. There is a path right round the lake which is around 2 miles, so great for a walk with the dogs, then a coffee and a snack, the cafe is pet friendly.

Not really sure what’s happened with this place recently. Been in and out of here for a couple years and in the last couple months the service has really gone downhill.

A couple weeks ago we had terrible wait times and service and all sorts of messed up items on a simple hot chocolate, tea and some toast order. However when requesting a partial refund for the items I got a full refund and apology for some new staff. So I left it at that.

But today was just as poor. Unreasonable wait times for the amount of people present and the simplicity of the menu. Babychino that was as hot as lava and not safe for kids to be drinking (please have a chat with your staff about this if you read this) and missing some items. Hot chocolate again incorrect. Just super basic stuff that isn’t worth complaining about because it’s 5 minutes between seeing staff to ask for some changes means waiting around with muddy and tired kids. Simple drinks order with some toast takes wayyyy longer than it should. Just really basic mistakes.

To top it all off I’ve got home and realised that the server accepted my cash for the order and decided to keep the change as a tip. (Over 50% tip).

Long story short I’ll give it a...
