Review of Fox and Hounds, New Millerdam, Wakefield
Our visit to the Fox and Hounds on Boxing Day was an absolute disaster. Despite the car park being unusually empty, it became clear why this place wasn’t busy.
From the start, things were concerning—witnessing the chef picking his nose in the restaurant was beyond unhygienic. Despite this, we were seated after a 10-minute wait and hoped for a decent meal. Unfortunately, that hope was misplaced.
The service was slow, but the real issues started with the mains. Two steak and ale pies turned out to be mislabeled chicken pies—dry and completely sauceless. My granddaughter’s chicken nuggets came with thick, dry potato wedges instead of chips, (anpparent their wedges are chips ) and my niece’s plain chicken burger arrived loaded with salad and dressings that she had requested not to put on .
When we raised the issue with the waitress, she apologized but offered no real resolution. One pie was taken back, leaving my son-in-law without a meal. The landlord’s attitude was shocking—rude, dismissive, and argumentative. He outright denied the error, claimed we should be satisfied with a small deduction, and made no effort to rectify the situation.
As we prepared to leave, the landlord told us to use the back door, an insult we refused. To make matters worse, the chef reappeared, mocking us by laughing, blowing kisses, and telling us to “get out.”
For a family meal costing £114, we received subpar food, appalling service, and a level of hostility that was completely unacceptable.
Avoid this place at all costs. The poor hygiene, unprofessional staff, and outright rudeness make it clear this is not an establishment that values...
Read moreBeen visiting a few times for Sunday lunch after a lovely walk round New Millerdam lake. Lunch used to be good. Unfortunately this time it seems that it's gone downhill. £15 for either roast beef or chicken. I ordered beef hubby asked for bit of both. I got 1 thick slice of beef, a Yorkshire pudding, 2 small roasts and a spoonful of mash. My beef was very chewy and one side was all fat which the dog got. Hubby got half chicken breast and a small slice of thick beef. Vegetables weren't brought out with the meal. We had to ask for them. Not much veg. Much smaller portion. Hubby had asked for extra gravy. Again we had started eating so food didn't go cold before gravy was brought. Vegetables were still quite hard. Don't feel that it's good value for money anymore. Next table to us did get 2 good slices of beef on their plate and stuffing which we didn't. When asked if everything was ok I said that I wasn't happy with the meal. Sunday...
Read moreA sunny Saturday lunchtime, the place was pretty quiet. I was a bit surprised because inside was spacious, clean, and well laid out, very appealing. But lacked a bit of atmosphere. We were seated fairly quickly and served fairly quickly, with a slight issue with one of the orders, but it was soon rectified within a timely manner. We ordered the Hog Roast and Chicken Corrination sandwich. (See pictures attached) The food was lovely, fresh, and well presented on the plate. The homemade chips were incredible. The slight downside was that the filling in the sandwiches was a little on the skimpy side. For the price you pay, I feel there could be more value for your money to the customer. Speaking of price, DO NOT order the old mout berries and cherries on draft it cost £7.20!! 🤯 Overall, it was a nice pub and a half decent pit stop just a little bit on the expensive side for your...
