Edit 2 Jan 2024: the experience of eating at Heavenly Desserts seems to have been dramatically and detrimentally impacted by the rollout of their new app. This evening, we were led to our table and handed our menus without a single word from the waitress. I suspect she was inexperienced and lacked training or confidence as opposed to rude. After waiting approximately 10 minutes, I remembered about the app and found the code on the table. The Castleford restaurant doesn't provide WiFi (no Heavenly Desserts SSID showing) and there's no phone signal, so customers are reliant on using free WiFi from surrounding retailers in Xcape. When I'd selected our desserts and coffees, the app threw an error that I needed a validation code, which it couldn't send. The message advised us to contact support (no details of how to do this). We attempted to download the app on another device, create a new account and tried again, only to get the same error. We tried to flag one of the waiting staff down, even waving to get attention, to no avail. One appeared to be using their mobile phone! I stood up, walked toward where the staff appeared to be congregating and caught the attention of one of them, who seemed distracted as I explained my problem, then asked me to speak to another member of staff behind the counter before hurriedly walking away. I approached the counter and waited for 5-10 minutes. In all that time, the manager and two members of staff behind the counter didn't even acknowledge I was waiting. In the end, I returned to our table and my family and I walked out. I don't think I've ever felt so strongly that I will never return to a restaurant.
Edit 1: We've been a few times since and had a fantastic experience each and every time. Staff are fabulous and a menu full of amazing desserts? What's not to like?!
A fabulous experience which will no doubt please the kids and adults alike. Reading the menu is an experience in itself! Dropped a star as it was busy when we went (Sunday afternoon in School holidays) and the front of house staff, who had obviously had a tough shift, were struggling to keep up (although they remained friendly and professional throughout) and toilet cleanliness was not quite at the standard you'd expect of a good restaurant. I expect this was a one-off as it was much busier than...
Read more-January 2025 visit: This branch of Heavenly Desserts is quite simply outstanding; the staff are all highly accomodating, their desserts are utterly delectable and the ambience is one that is thoroughly enticing.
The greatest praise is reserved for the manager of this branch, for they go above and beyond in ensuring that every diner is served with respect, consideration and care.
Kudos to you all on creating a wonderful establishment. I can state without equivocation that this is the jewel in the crown of the Heavenly Desserts organisation.
I never consider going anywhere else when I need my sweet tooth satiating - and now that they do brunch too, my savoury tastebuds can rejoice too!
Thank you to the staff for achieving such excellent standards of service.
-July 2025 visit: I felt compelled to write this update, for I returned to this wonderful establishment. The memory of the aforementioned visit above dictated that I must satisfy my tastebuds with their confectionery goodness once again.
I was greeted by the manager of the branch with the highest level of courtesy, respect and warmth. She took the time to personally seat me at the table. I have never met a manager so affable, accommodating and approachable in equal measure. It is no surprise to me that this branch of Heavenly Desserts delivers consistent excellence in their pursuit of dessert perfection, because the branch is a reflection of the manager’s classy character.
I tried the delightfully named Monkey bread, milk cake and cappuccino. The Monkey bread was satisfyingly moreish; the juxtaposition of cinnamon, warm caramel and nuts alongside vanilla ice cream was utterly delightful. This was my first time trying milk cake, and I can safely state, it shall not be my last: each bite was delicate yet powerful. The cappuccino was crafted with high quality coffee beans. I devoured every item with the greatest of joy.
I was overjoyed to have visited this branch again, and I want to give my utmost thanks to the staff and manager in particular, for their hard work and endeavour. May this branch continue to receive the accolades that it so...
Read moreWe came in for 5 ice creams in a cone to take away. Firstly they charge you extra for the cone which they don’t display on the pricing. We waited over 20 minutes for them to make our ice creams. There were only 3 tables occupied in the entire place! I got mine, took a few licks and found a large black hair. I took it back to the counter and got told it didn’t come from them! Where else did it come from?! We are a family who all have BLONDE hair!!! They refused a refund. After arguing for 5 minutes he says he had to check the CCTV!! How on earth is he going to see a hair on the CCTV!! The usual customer service would have been to apologise profusely!! He eventually gave in said I could have a refund - which he didn’t get from the till, he took out of the tip jar!!! So it took over 30 minutes to get 4 ice creams and refund. Disgusting. Obviously we will not be returning and with customer service like that, I recommend everyone else not to either. 0 stars.
** note after below response. This is a 💯 truthful review as this establishment knows. The restaurant was not busy, with only 3 other tables being served. I walked out of the establishment with my ice cream to wait for my sister to be served and walked straight back in with it after discovery of the hair! A black hair, I have blonde hair. These things happen, I understand that. But your attitude upon being presented with this left a lot to be desired. I remind you of your responsibility towards customers, and making them wait whilst you check CCTV for a £3.50 refund is ridiculous. Making a customer out to be a liar. I invite you to post the CCTV and we shall then see who is the...
