This is a great little spot. Unexpectedly funky given its rural location. Food was pretty good although some dishes could be worked on. (We loved the ribs, but the kimchi prawns we lacking that kimchi zing…) and the service although friendly could be refined.
We were a big group and so the restaurant asked us to order in advance. The first thing our waitress asked is if we wanted to order any more food because they needed to start making it right away. Given we’d mostly forgotten what we’d ordered so long before our visit and not yet received our food, we had no idea if we needed more. It turned out we’d ordered way more than we needed up front and the restaurant was able to provide doggy bags to take home our leftovers (mostly tempura veggies).
My son is pescatarian. He enjoyed the calamari & patatas bravas but a few more veggie/pescatarian options would be great. We didn’t order him kimchi prawns as I am yet to meet a child his age who likes kimchi… although it turns out he would have been fine with it (see above).
Two of us arrived ahead of the large group and one of us was able to order a drink at the bar to enjoy while we waited. When I tried to order a glass of wine I was told o couldn’t order yet because I was early. Although explained with a friendly but firm tone, I was a little crestfallen given that my friend was served straight away, and that we would be spending a large amount of money that evening. It would not have taken long to poor a glass of wine.
Even with all these minor shortcomings I thoroughly recommend a visit to perhaps the funkiest little spot in rural North Wales. I am used to restaurants in big cities, so when you consider the size of Criccieth, they’re doing really well and should be proud of their...

A second amazing meal at Bwyty 51 this evening for our family. Jake, the owner, once again greeted us like old friends and made sure we had another memorable meal with our 2 children.
We opted for Paella and a few different tapas dishes on this occasion. Our children managed to polish off 4 chicken strips dishes between just themselves - testament to how incredible the crispy chicken strips are! We would also recommend the quesadillas as a stand out dish - they are just so simple but impossible to stop eating.
As for the paella - wow. I mentioned in my previous review that we travel to Spain frequently, and the food at Bwyty 51 is up there or even better than any Tapas we can ever remember in Spain, and the same remarks absolutely apply to the Paella at Bwyty 51. So, so good, and such a large serving that we took some home rather than sacraligiously leave it behind defeated by our stomachs!
The wine list is also extensive, expertly chosen and amazing value for money. We also high recommend trying at least one of the expertly made cocktails - specifically the Espresso Martini which again, is the best I've ever experienced.
And lastly, the service, aswell as Jake's warmth and professionalism, his team emulates this too. Bwyty 51 is an absolute gem of a place, and you'd be mad to miss it!
(Reservations definitely necessary - we saw quite a few people chancing a walk-in, only to leave disappointed due to it being fully booked).
Original review: The best Tapas I've ever had, including in Spain. Absolutely amazing food, amazing staff, owner, & a really lovely vibe. A blessing to Criccieth....
Read moreOh Waw! having lived to the ripe old age of 52 and having had quite a lot of food in that 52 years (and I mean, a LOT!!), I have to say, hand on heart, that the food I ate at Bwyty 51 tonight was the most tasty, delicious, loveliest food I have ever eaten. Ever. I mean, the salad, was nice to look at like a lot of salads are, but the taste was something that I can never describe in one little bowl of deliciousness, as was all the other little bits that we ordered.(tacos, prawns, pulled beef etc). It was then followed by scrumptious cocktails and all the while everything was served by competent and ever so friendly people. I can't wait to go back again. Thank you all so much. (I have no photos as I was too busy devouring all the...
