What an absolute gem! It's been a long time since Cwmbran has had somewhere like Carro.
I'm back in Wales visiting family, I'm only back for a week, but I have been to Carro on two separate occasions. The first night I had the Chicken, avocado and bacon salad... I don't know what the dressing was but it was delicious! Very well prepared, and worth every penny. Josh served me and my mum, he was very friendly and chatty, he's an asset to the restaurant. The second night I cam with my cousins, and we shared two tapas trays. I will say, the tapas is quite small, and I recommend three dishes per person minimum... but wow! Patatas braves was outstanding, crispy on the outside, soft and almost like fondant potatoes. Beautiful! Everything was very flavourful, we couldn't get enough!
The decor is gorgeous and eclectic, the atmosphere is really warm and welcoming. If I lived closer, I can imagine coming here to work at a table, having a spot of lunch, relaxing in the evening with friends and a glass of wine, or coming with my partner for a nice meal. It really is a...
Read moreVisited here with friends and what an awful experience it was. Me and friends are all deaf I explained this before we came in and explained. The service was absolutely appalling . I tried to ask one of the staff to repeat as he was talking to one of my friend . Unfortunately he had the hump and walked off which left us feeling deflated. Then when the food arrived the staff couldn’t understand my deaf friends. I saw them turned around then pulled faces & rolled their eyes. They kept getting orders wrong. Their attitude is appalling which left us feeling uncomfortable. When food arrived the waitress who originally served us kept passing us off on to other servers and wouldn’t come and clear our plates or empty glasses, we also noticed she was clearing others around us but avoiding us. One young boy came over and cleared our table and was lovely. When I explained I was dairy free when asked about allergies I was asked whats that? Food was lovely but the whole service put an absolute dampener on the afternoon, won’t be...
Read moreStaff have always been fantastic here and never had any issues with them.
We've usually enjoyed the food (especially the burgers) but have always found it to be on the more expensive side for the quality and portion size.
One side issue we previously had was an extremely drunk guy walking around pestering people at 10am. Not sure how the staff wouldn't have noticed him but they didn't intervene from what I saw and continued to serve him cocktails. Not a great experience at the time.
Unfortunately our latest visit for breakfast wasn't the best, with 2 breakfast muffins with hash browns and another plate coming to around £50 with drinks.
The bacon was horrendously salty, and the ketchup is way too vinegary. Also, the plates the muffins are served on are uncomfortably small, even though the portions are too small for the price.
The atmosphere is always great though, so we have mixed feelings about visiting again. I'd say give it's definitely worth a try, but you may leave hungry if you don't want to...
