Burger Base — Restaurant in Wales

I have eaten here a few times. Service is fantastic. Food is tasty and always cooked nicely. I'm not sure why people mark this restaurant down. Perhaps the delivery service is reflecting badly as of all the complaints I've read appear to be orders that have been delivered. The shop is very clean looking and the staff are friendly. I only have one concern and it's why I've had to mark it down a star. It may seem trivial but it still needs a mention. No tomatos. Literally every visit I've not had tomatos in my burgers. I feel like a tomato is for most people an important part of a burger and would imagine they aren't hard to order or keep stocked. It did ruin my burger if I'm honest. I ate the burger but was conscious that that part of the meal missing.

The cooks did also prepare to pots of chicken. One had Frank's sauce the other chilli sauce. Unfortunately I but into one of the Frank's chicken bites before realising they'd put the labels on the lids in the wrong order. I can't stand the sauce to be honest and so had to take a few moments to clear my mouth.

In all seriousness if you haven't tried eating in the actual restaurant, don't decide using the reviews because I promise you this food holds its own. I can't speak for delivery as I'm not the type of person who would expect burger and chips to stay hot on delivery for any amount of time but in the store the fries are always crispy and hot. The food overall is outstanding for the price and for those comparing it to Mcdonalds? 😂 No, just no. Mcdonalds is awful. Floppy fries, lopsided burgers, mistakes consistently on orders, rude staff, over salted fries and beef burgers that taste like they've been soaked in brine. Ice-cream machines always off or as they like to put it, "broken". Dirty kitchens and foyers, slithers of salad and so on. There is no comparison at all, burger base wins...

Overall a lacklustre experience.

Appearance outside- relatively clean and tidy despite central and busy location in Cwmbran.

Cleanliness - very clean inside and staff visibly wiping down and cleaning equipment.

Ease of order - self service machine is very clear. Painless experience although the reference number given was impossible to read on the monitor as the font size was tiny, everyone in the shop was clustered around it from a couple of metres away due to this. Make it easier, fill up the screen as you were using about 20% of the available screen space.

Value - very good overall, although paying 25p for ketchup and receiving about 2ml of it within the tiny tub was just measly. Not sure if you ran out or just cutting costs. You have a self serve mayo tub, just do the same with the ketchup.

Food - pretty poor. The veggie burger was packed with sweetcorn and peas which in terms of appearance was excellent, not much flavour though and it had zero texture. Try cooking the patties for longer to crisp them up, the soggy patty with the soft bun meant people without teeth could easily consume it. Try toasting the inside of the bun too. The fries were superb, very similar to McDonald’s and way nicer than kfc/ Burger King etc. The spicy sauce has great spice but tastes like burnt out car. Not great. The orange juice given to me appeared as per the pic below, it was all separated/ split and going brown. No visible expiry date on the packaging. I did raise with a member of staff who offered to swap.

Overall not great, but not...

Misses the mark - not quite there, I'm giving 3 stars as they franchise is still quite new so there's time to improve. If you enjoy burger joints then it's worth giving it a try. I ordered a double cheese burger as a large meal, with 12pcs chicken nuggets. The pepsi was quite flat and wattery, some of the chips were cold but for the most part all the chips were quite soggy with not much flavour, a bit too floppy. The nuggets were probably the best thing, but saying that there wasn't a great deal of flavour or texture to them, still, I'd order them again. The burger was dry and tasteless, was very difficult to taste the meat, the onions and pickles didn't do much to elevate the taste either. Bun felt flaky with each bite.

I also ordered the veggie burger was more mushy than anything but it didn't really taste all that bad, the bun was a bit better too.

Prices are competitive for similar fast food burger places.
