First impressions, the building is amazing in a good location nicely tucked away. Both me and my partner walked in tonight with no booking and there was a table available. However, it did take a while to get noticed and called upon. The server desk should maybe be closer round to the bar so it's easier to get seen. There can't have been much more than 5 or 6 tables seated when we entered.
We were taken to a table and given menus to look at and an order was taken fairly promptly for drinks and then starter and mains.
The starter of chicken wings came out really rapid which did impress both myself and my partner but we had no napkins or cutlery given to us and had to ask, the drinks came a little while after the starter.
Once the starter was cleared again the mains came out really quickly, the waiter we had was fairly prompt at checking everything was ok with our meal which we had no issues with, but had to ask for cutlery.
We couldn't finish the meal the portions are massive so I would say well worth the money. I would personally tweak a couple of things but that is entirely preference. We asked for the bill and received it after a while to which we saw there was a mistake, we called over the waiter to get this corrected.
We did not receive the correct bill at the table, my partner had moved on to the car and waited for me to settle it, I waited at the table for 15-20mins. I can only assume our server had forgotten, we where ready to give a decent tip before hand but I ended up going to the bar to pay and I did not leave a tip afterwards.
The kitchens service was incredibly quick but I am not sure I can say the same about the waiting on staff (other than the food runner, he was pretty quick!) I didn't feel overly engaged by the waiter we had and from the start seemed a bit uninterested even when asking if we had a booking, at least he seemed friendly enough even if a bit uninterested. From what I could see the manager was on the bar and stayed there entirely and one other server was working so 4 FOH members for no more than 12 tables. For most of our visit we saw more of the runner than the servers who didn't even appear that much on the floor from what I could see. The FOH speed has really let this visit down for us, I can forget about the drink speed when everything else goes well but to be forgotten at the end (which you could argue as the important bit for the business) I don't find...
Read moreCattle and Trough? LLANELLI Have eaten at many restaurants around the country and this was the worst experience ever! Wasted £82 Arrived on time having booked a table for 3. No one in reception. Waited 15 minutes in reception before being acknowledged and shown to a table. First impression while waiting was we walked into a children’s play centre. Young children running amuck and screaming. I appreciate family restaurants but not when children are left to run riot. Drinks ordered, one sparkling wine presented in a bottle was flat. Impression it was an opened unused previous order. This was replaced. Off to a good start. Starters we had the sharing platter. No side plates given or offered so we asked for some. One sent back as it was filthy. Finished the starter and half hour passed noticed 3 other parties that arrived long after us were having their main. It was then that we decided the deafening pandemonium ‘ambience’ was not for us and asked that our main meal be put in a takeout. We were then informed that you don’t have takeout packaging, only foil, and due to staff not being allowed to touch our food that we would have to wrap our food ourselves at our table. How did the food get on the plates in the first place? What utter rubbish! We asked for the manager who was not in. We proceeded to the service area to pack our food with much annoyance from the staff. Don’t you want customers to see how you prepare the food? An unfortunate supervisor that just started her shift got the brunt of our complaint. She did kindly refund the burger stack. Got home and plated our food from the foil parcels. For what we paid and the hype reviews the food was below par. The meat was dry and a steak undercooked (bloody - not medium). Chips also dry and a bit of salad that seemed fresh (wonder if this was touched during prep ?) I question the authenticity of the ‘smokehouse’ tastes more like liquid smoke. I traveled 250 miles to see my 81 year old mother and took her and my son out for a treat. It was an embarrassment and disappointment. NO MANAGER CLEARLY UNDERSTAFFED ON THE DAY NO CONSIDERATION FOR...
Read moreUtterly disappointed last night by Cattle & Co Llanelli.
Let me start with that we work and stay in Llanelli quite often, always our first port of call will be Cattle & Co when going out for our food in the evenings. We have been going now I'd say close to over 2 years, so quite clearly enjoy the food and service, we have even gotten to know a few of the staff over our many visits to the restaurant. If we was in Llanelli for say 5 days we more than likely would come here at least 3 of the nights. For instance this week we was there Tuesday and then went again Wednesday, well should I say we tried to go anyway...
We arrived at Cattle & Co last night at about 19:45, we hadn't booked a table because when we looked online there was available tables on every time slot that went up too 20:30! So thought we would be ok (also the £10 deposit is a bit awkward on the works credit card when it comes to the receipt), the 2 of us walked in to be greeted by the guy behind the bar. Asked if we had a booking, which we replied no and was told we ain't taking walk ins tonight I'm afraid, I said ok so il go stand outside and book the table then we will be back in 5 mins, which threw him into a panic and said oh no sorry the kitchen closes at 8. I could see on the table closest to us that a table of 4 was only just ordering. So not sure why we was being turned away for.
After standing around in the rain all day and a 12 hour shift, we are now scampering round trying to find a place to eat and get there in time! Last thing we needed! Fortunately we found somewhere and turned out to be a hidden gem! Also whilst eating at this other place we looked and was still able to book a table at the restaurant till 20:30!
I'm not one to leave reviews, however after last night and after the amount of money our company has spent in the restaurant over the past 2 years it really left a bitter taste in my mouth. Real disappointment but must admit must say thanks for helping us find this new...
