The Sandpiper, Brewers Fayre is located in Llanelli, West Wales. Brewers Fayre is a budget style restaurant offering a great value food, on a budget. They feature a value offering during the week of 2 meals for only ÂŁ8:99 (prices may have altered from the time this was written)
We pulled up to the car park to find it almost full, so started to wonder if we were going to find a table. Upon entering we were greeted by the Manageress who welcomed us and asked if we She then asked if we had any allergies and asked if we would like to sit inside or outside in the new patio area. Since is was extremely hot we opted for the outdoor patio.
If you use the car park, be sure to validate your registration on the iPad upon arrival!
The outdoor patio is new and features standard tables and chairs as well as high seated benches. There is an outside bar situated to the left as you walk outside, so you don't even need to go back inside to get another drink - fab! The patio area overlooks the Sandy Water Park Lake which is a lovely view while you relax in the open air. If you didn't see the 'Brewers Fayre' sign you would honestly think you were in an upscale restaurant.
The entrance to the restaurant as well as the patio area are all on level ground making wheelchair access easy. An accessible toilet is available and does not require a RADAR key for access.
New to this restaurant is the 'Whip'd Ice Cream Station', where you are able to mix and create your own ice creams complete with various toppings. There is of course a small charge for this.
There is a QR code on every table which allows you to see the menu on your phone, however, you are still required to visit the bar to place your order. This was explained to us by the waitress who passed by our table and was also keeping all the tables clean, as well as helping other guests. She was doing a great job and was very helpful and friendly.
We ordered the Breaded Mushrooms and Potato Dippers for starters and we both had the Smothered Chicken for mains. Our starters arrived relatively quickly, brought out by another Team Member who was also friendly and smiling. These were piping hot and tasted great, although the diced bacon on the potato skins was very scarce.
For drinks we had the Coke refills which work out at exceptional value for money if you want more than just 2 refills. The available choices are Coke Zero, Diet Coke, Orange Fanta, Lemonade and Dr. Pepper Zero. Each of these is available with a Lime, Cherry or Vanilla shot if you choose. The refill station is located inside for you to help yourself. There is also an ice machine as well if you want your drink extra chilled.
Shortly after we finished our starters the lovely waitress came over to clear our plates and asked if we had mains to follow? We said we did, so she said she would let the kitchen know and advised us they shouldn't be long. We thanked her and went to refill our drinks. Before we new it a Team Member was brining out our mains, Smothered Chicken. This comes with chips, coleslaw and garlic bread slice. The smothered part of the chicken has BBQ sauce, slice of back bacon and melted cheese. The chicken was juicy and tasted very nice, and was not burnt underneath which sometimes happens.
A visit to the toilets is unfortunately where things were not so good. The gents toilet was not that clean and had a very strong stale urine smell which was extremely unpleasant. The hand sanitiser dispenser by the patio entrance was not working and also dirty. This is not something I expected considering we have just come out of a pandemic. (This information has been passed to the restaurant.)
Upon leaving we were thanked for our visit by the Manager.
However, overall our visit was very good indeed and very affordable, even if there is a group of you. It's the perfect place to go if you are on a budget or fancy trying out some new cocktails. We would definitely recommend, and will certainty visit again if we are...
Read moreThe Sandpiper is a reasonably priced chain pub, very similar to Wetherspoons in terms of the food options and quality. If you want a nice easy cheap meal out, then Sandpiper will do well in a pinch. But it might not be the spot for food connoisseurs or very good conscious customers.
The Pros: You can get a table without booking 80% of the time. Even so, itâs smart to call ahead and check. But they are usually willing to accommodate large groups on short notice.
Staff are very accommodating and put up with a lot (bless them). They deal with drunks, complex orders and wild children quite often, so they really deserve praise.
Has a pretty good selection of food options, provided you are fussy or specific in what you eat. If you are a meat eater, then youâll have a lot of options.
The venue often has live music events that you could enjoy on the right day.
Good sized childrenâs play area with cameras for your childâs safety. Between face painting, indoor jungle gym, and arcade video games, most kids will have fun while waiting for a meal. Good spot for highly energetic children.
The Cons: Limited menu for vegetarians and vegans. You may have to settle with asking for substitutes for certain things, which is more awkward and risks getting forgotten or mixed up.
The food itself isnât really out of this world tasty. For around ÂŁ10-ÂŁ15 per person donât expect a flavour extravaganza. Itâs a budget chain pub, which is great for certain occasions, or catch ups. But definitely not high class experience.
Decor is dated and reminiscent of ages past. I donât like to think how many drinks have been spilled over the sticky tables. Not exactly unpleasant to be in, but nothing special. The original brick walls add some nice character to make up for it.
Itâs usually pretty packed inside, especially on a weekend. You might want to plan a meal in the week for a more quiet relaxed experience.
Overall The Sandpiper is a decent place to eat if you want decent but not amazing food, somewhere to entertain the children while you wait, and isnât too tough...
Read moreFirst thing I'll say is that one must make one's own mind up about this place, but our experience was seriously not good. We called in during the middle of a Sunday afternoon, judging that we would be after the main influx of the Sunday dinner groups there to over indulge on food. Waited at the "wait here to be seated" sign for what seemed like an eternity and no-one came so we wandered in and looked around. There was still a lot of people present and many still eating. There was plenty of food at the carvery counter but no-one there. Not too many staff members present but there were some. I was forced to ask a gent behind the bar about seating and he went to get a 'front of house' lady that showed us to a table and then stated that there was no meat available so the carvery was out but bizarrely, we could still dine from the menu. I advised the lady we were vegetarian anyway and would be happy to eat just vegetables but was spoken to quite dismissively and told we'd have to order off the menu. She had started to walk away before even finishing her statement leaving us stood there just staring at eachother in disbelief at the rudeness of this member of staff. No words were exchanged as none were needed... we both just walked out, having not even taken a seat, yet alone ordered. I cannot even claim that it was seriously busy for this member of staff to have been so rude as to walk off while I was discussing options with her. Check some of my other reviews and you will see that I am not in the habit of leaving such negative reviews. This experience...
