Came for the hubby to attempt this Dennison Round run (start here, run to 4 set designations: Caerphilly Mountain, Castell Coch, Craig yr Ally, & Garth Hill, return here) then while he was out doing what he loves (running) I sat on a fabulously comfy couch listening to terrific punkish tunes (Sex Pistols “Blister in the Sun 🌞 was playing when we arrived 💜) sipping my hazelnut flavored, perfectly brewed coffee, and reading my book. There has been a constant flow of runners, hikers, bikers, and others in and out and everyone is friendly and happy. The staff are attentive and never complained that I sat here for over an hour reading and only bought one coffee. When the hubby returned we got a Pain au chocolate, and 2 more coffees, and moved to a table outside to enjoy the sunshine. Didn’t think to take a pic until we had already devoured most of it, it was delish! Kitschy fun decor and lots of interesting little things for sale or just to look at. If ever back in this part of the world, will definitely come back.

Add motorists escaping the madness of the M4, to the cyclists, runners etc (and lots of regular locals) that love this little gem on the edge of a sleepy suburb & the countryside. I’m keeping the well-deserved 5-star rating going, part of the reason I chose this (and the accurate photos of the cool atmosphere) as a lunch stopover on my long drive. Great food, lovely hosts, excellent coffee. Well worth the 5 min diversion off the motorway! (And there’s a castle on the hill, what else do you need!)

Another lovely find just off the M4; forget chain coffee shops, visit First Light. Lovingly made coffee, freshly roasted beans in the shop, Cruffins and cakes too. Bought a lovely cappuccino and some freshly roasted beans too. Stop reading, get visiting!

The café has a cozy atmosphere. It’s a nice place to sit and relax after a long cycle. However, my iced matcha latte wasn’t so great — it could definitely be improved in terms of taste and preparation.

The bigger issue for me was the service: when I asked politely for an add-on in my drink the staff member agreed but then slammed the drink in front of me after, which felt unnecessarily rude and spoiled the experience.

Overall the place has a lot of potential with its charm and ambiance, but the drinks and customer service could use...
