Noisy table, denied move as other tables booked. Asked for drinks 1 min after taking seats. Said come back. Order a glass of shiraz, worst glass of wine I have ever tasted, smelt of vinegar, made me gag and burned my throat it was so acidic. Waitress dismissive when I complained, said it was a new bottle. Irrelevant, it was not drinkable. Did replace with a Malbec which was much better. My companion said the zero alcohol beer was the worst one available, Blue something, he went with a 0.5% beer then needed lemonade to add to it. Said Weatherspoons last night had 5 non alcoholic beers including an excellent one. He was surprised how good 'spoons was and disappointed at options here.
Waited a long time for waitress to come back to order food.
My roast beef Sunday lunch was disappointing. Very small portions of everything except the biggest Yorkshire pudding ever. Literally 1/4 plate was mashed potato spread wide to fill the plate. Never had mash served before. The roasties were 3 tiny potatoes, one small baby potatoes and two quarters even smaller, barely a decent mouthful between them. The beef was only just enough and uniformly grey but quite tender and tasty. The broccoli was overcooked and water logged, the cauli less so, the carrots were fine. Had several roast dinners recently including at the 3 Arches in Cardiff, this didn't come close in amount or quality. I will not be returning.
My companion had Glamorgan sausages. They looked over cooked. In fact they were dried out ontop as kept warm under a heat lamp. He said they tasted good. A lot of mash and a lot of peas.
Lots of vegetarian gravy.
I was still hungry, unusually.
Dessert good except I'm severely lactose intolerant so asked for vegan chocolate praline version. When it arrived, it was not the vegan version. Good job I checked. They changed it.
Today, Monday, I have severe diarrhoea and have been unable to go to the hospital where I work and am excluded for 48hrs after symptoms cease.
I won't be coming back, nor recommend doing so.
While there, at another table a man sent his food back as it was cold.
We ordered tea and coffee, no milk alternative available. I'm lactose intolerant, my companion vegetarian. Why do vegans have to have black tea and coffee? Not really catering completely for those who can't have cows milk.
The menu said check website for allergens. Waitress said same. Not acceptable these days.
The bill was £60+ We didn't tip.
Struggled to park despite the restaurant...
Read moreWhilst visiting the ty Nant for Mother’s Day we experienced the following
length of time for food. Booking at 4:30, starters arrived at 5:30, mains were ordered at the same time as starters and didn’t arrive until 6:15(ish) when food did arrive it was absolutely lovely drinks were ordered before main meal, we had to ask where they were after finishing the meal. Resulting in most on the table not having a drink with food. It was around 25mins wait for the drink child’s burger bun was extremely burnt the paid deposit wasn’t taken off the bill until we notified a member of staff when looking at the bill Mother’s Day menu had been taken off - when we asked a member of staff she replied it had been taken off because they had run out of food and had to go get some from other pubs. She then went on to say but you can order anything on the main menu we have it all in. When a family member got into a conversation with her at the table she said that they weren’t excepting walk ins and that everyone there had to book. Therefore they would have known the numbers of everyone attending on that day and a large deposit had to be paid prior to attending. Considering you could order anything on the big main menu was just a way of adding extra money to customers and it was extremely disappointing that the Mother’s Day menu - on Mother’s Day had been taken away. we had to go up to ask for sauces to go with the dinner when they should of come with it as stated or staff could of asked if we wanted any sauce kids ice cream was like a block of ice they sat us right by where the roof was leaking, when they brought our food to the table the staff walked under it with our food. The leak was so bad the floor was largely flooded, health and safety of staff and customers was compromised which is completely unacceptable. staff member by the till next to our table shouted in anger to another member of staff across tables of customers. Completely unprofessional.
Due to such an awful experience and very poor service we definitely won’t be...
Read moreIt is a great looking pub, in a good location. Especially for those of us who live nearby in either village. Sadly, that's as good as it gets. It's pretty to look at.
We had food...the worst meal we have ever had. The saddest looking, smallest portion of prawn cocktail, served with 2 rounds of dry, hard, stale bread. Along with a very small..akin to child size... bowl of soul. The bread with the soup was nice. Our mains were: scampi and chips, and a curry. Very limited choice on their menu caused us to opt for these. Scampi & chips was served on a plate... as you would expect, I hear you say... with a newspaper effect piece of paper underneath the food. Not the best idea, as my food was stuck to said paper. I had to peel the paper off each individual item on my plate. Not a happy bunny as it took a while. Needlessly leaving my small portion of food cold. The curry was completely tasteless and bland. We are not lovers of spicy food, so if we found it bland, others would struggle. Again, portion sizes were minimal. We are definitely NOT greedy people! When you're paying for dining, you at least need to feel satisfied. {We went home and cooked ourselves some food}...Our bill was £60...admittedly there were 4 drinks and a tasteless, average filter coffee included:even though I had kindly requested a floater coffee. Very dissatisfied and disappointed.
What a trick the landlords are missing out on here. It literally is the only pub in the village. It was a warm Saturday evening and we were the only 2 people outside. After eating here, I can now understand why that is the case. It's such a shame, as we would like to have eaten here very regularly. Especially as it is a 5 minute walk from our house. Great for us drivers to be able to leave the car at home for a change. They could make an extremely comfortable living and a good profit from this lovely looking pub. If only the effort was made. In particular, the dining, needs addressing urgently. We're craving a decent local eatery at this pub. What a wasted...
