Disappointing. More like pub grub than bistro fare. The hake was dry and served in a 'cream, anchovy and prawn' sauce which was insipid with little evidence of cream or prawns and only very mildly salty from the anchovy. My wife had 'supreme' of guinea fowl but instead got a dry leg of guinea fowl in another thin and watery sauce. Supreme should be a breast. The custard tart and chocolate mousse were both served with squirty cream from an aerosol!! It's not rocket science to provide a quenelle of extra thick cream from the supermarket surely? Bland vegetables and a carafe of lukewarm tap water added to the experience. I was thinking of the cheese board for dessert but these were run of the mill cheeses off the supermarket shelf such as St Agur and Camembert and even included Manchego which is Spanish. There are over 400 official cheeses in France - so it doesn't take much to present a superb cheese board with something a little different. A double Bacardi and coke was £10.75 and was indicative of the unreasonable hike in drink prices from wholesale to the customer. For the same overall cost, try Watson's in Conwy, which although not claiming to be a French bistro, really know how to cook with a cheerful and excellent...
Read moreUpdated Dec 2024. We have become regulars here whenever we visit Llandudno and Conwy, which is now usually twice a year. Food is brilliant and Cai a perfect host, with the team in support providing excellent service.
Dec 2019 What a find! We were a party of 7 at relatively short notice this week and the team very kindly managed to accommodate us, despite being incredibly busy pre Christmas. We had a fantastic meal, excellent service and exquisite food in a really nice environment and atmosphere. All the meals were wonderful.... Lamb, pork, duck, snails cooked to perfection. (We may also have contributed to a coffee avec brandy idea addition at the end of our meal?) We intend to visit again when we are in the area as we are not local, and will highly recommend Paysanne to those we know who visit the area, and if you are reading this review and uncertain as to whether you will like Paysanne, we would say don't hesitate, book it! It's fabulous! Looking forward to...
Read moreMy family are regular patrons at Paysanne and have always spoken very highly of it. My wife and I finally managed to visit for ourselves last weekend and it was a fantastic experience. The host is very pleasant, attentive, warm and likeable, the food portions are relatively small, but piping hot, very tasty and full of flavour. The only (ever so slight) downsides were the desert - we both had Crème Brule, and I know they are sometimes served cold, but these were cold at the top and borderline frozen at the bottom. They were also incredibly thick. We didn't enjoy them to be honest. And secondly (and this isn't Paysanne's fault), as this is only a small, intimate establishment, the ambience was spoilt by a table of 6 people from Stoke who had one volume, loud!
Overall, brilliant - we're looking forward to going again.
Make sure you book well in advance, if you walk in you'll likely get turned away or have to...
