Went for the drive-thru as I live a little while away. Ordered a spicy burger meal, 5 tenders, 12 wings, mac & Cheese, biscuit and gravy. Although this is a large order, it came to over £32 which when you look at the individual pricing for the menu, it's a lot higher than a lot of fast food places. Ordered the tenders with garlic mayo as wasn't sure what was available but once I drove past the menu (order microphone obscures this) I changed my mind, asked twice for it to be Louisiana Hot but it wasn't changed (fair, things happen, it can be busy). Was told the mac & cheese would be 6 minutes so could I wait at Bay 1, no problem, except my order was nearly handed to me after I gave my receipt back at the pickup window. So my food was going to be stood around for at least 6 minutes in a bag before getting to me. I parked at Bay 1 and began to wait, my baby began to get restless and our wait got even longer. After 10 minutes, a woman came out with a bag of food (no drink) and began looking around cars and walking over to other car parks. As there was no drink I assumed it wasn't mine so left her looking around. After a few more minutes of looking, I was approached and asked if my order was what was read back, it was. I commented that my food would most likely be cold now as it's been a while since I waited for the mac and the woman had been walking around outside for ages. I was assured it wouldn't be... I was also asked if I had received my drink, I hadn't. So I had to wait what seemed to be an extraordinary amount of time to pour a diet coke. Due to the baby crying and having my order read back, I drove home with haste. Upon getting back, my food was cold, the tenders were small (see picture), and my fries were missing. I get it's opening week, but do a soft launch, offer discounts on your full menu price, or do more training with the team to avoid obvious mistakes. Spending £32+ for a sub par meal that could have been avoided doesn't leave a great taste in my mouth. The food was OK, but when it's tepid, what more can I say? Poor portion of mac & cheese too. Very disappointed and won't return unfortunately.

Update 9/9/23 - I sent details as per Popeyes response below but they stopped responding to me as of 5/9/23. Someone is apparently getting in touch from the store...not happened yet at all. My service has gone down to...

In the realm of clucky comfort fast food, here in the UK, the new kid on the block Jollibee reigns supreme. But there is yet another new kid on the block - Popeyes Southern Fried Chicken. This venue, the lesser of the two in Cardiff, stands as a colourful alternative to longstanding mainstays in the sector. Not quite a beacon of culinary excellence, it nevertheless does well in creating an ambiance that resonates with all things deep-fried and savory from heart of the American deep South. To me it seems a veritable gastronomic adventure unfolds each time I bite into a spicy piece of deep-fried chicken, especially one that is encapsulated in a crispy golden exterior. Heaven, if heaven were a vat of boiling oil filled with artery clogging, battered chicken.

There is visual allure associated with Popeyes Southern Fried Chicken. It is undeniable. The new building, in the retail park, is certainly not subtle. But it's for the food you must go. The burgers are good, the spicy varient pips the regular though. The cajun fries are a gimmick of sorts, as it's just a bit of extra seasoning on your fries. The shakes are lovely, but are they worth the cost - you decide. Ah, now to the chicken. My first bite into this delectable creation revealed a masterful play of textures. The exterior offers a satisfying crunch. A testament, I am told, to Popeyes' "commitment to the delicate art of frying". As the crispy shell gives way, the meat underneath unveils a succulence that is both tender and gratifying - a perfect balance of heat and flavour. While the chicken is undoubtedly the star of the show, the accompanying sides do deserve some commendation, with the classic biscuits taking center stage. These buttery, flaky delights serve as the perfect complement, providing a satisfying contrast to the savory indulgence of the fried chicken.

In the world of fast-food chicken, staples like KFC and Miss Millies may well have gone stale. It's fantastic we have, in Jollibee and Popeyes, newcomers with new flavours. Southern fried chicken is not everyone's cuppa tea. But in the realm of fried delicacies, this spot beckons as a must-try. While I can't promise an unforgettable taste experience, I can say your hunger will be slated without breaking the bank. So pop down to Popeyes when next you feel peckish, you'll thank...

We had an awful experience at the Popeyes Cardiff Bay drive-thru today. We opted for what we thought would be a quick and easy stop to get food for our young daughters, but it turned into a nightmare, thanks to Zahra, the employee handling our order. Her behaviour was shockingly rude, and it’s clear she needs serious training in customer service.

We ordered two kids’ meals but were given only one. When we pointed this out, Zahra rudely insisted that we had only ordered one, pointing at the receipt instead of apologizing or even listening to us. My wife drove off because Zahra’s attitude was appalling, but we decided to go back around to get the second meal and put it behind us.

When we pulled back up and explained the issue again, Zahra’s response was, “If you’ve got something to say, come to the window and say it!” Shockingly, we could hear her speaking disrespectfully about us through the open window!

Thankfully, the manager intervened, apologized, and did his best to resolve the situation, but Zahra refused to take responsibility. She was so rude that her colleagues had to physically move her away to prevent the situation from escalating further.

It was an absolutely disgusting experience, and all this took place in front of my 3-year-old daughter, who was in the back seat. The service at this location is horrific, and the behavior of this employee was unacceptable. Save yourself the trouble and avoid this place, especially if...

Decent addition to the Cardiff bay retail park, on the far side near IKEA. Plenty of parking available for 2 hours.
