We ordered the Massaman curry and the Pad Thai. I’d originally planned to have the Panang curry, but changed my mind after reading some great reviews about the Pad Thai—unfortunately, I wish I hadn’t. I’ve been to Thailand a few times and I’ve never had a Pad Thai quite like this. It was overloaded with grated carrot, which completely overpowered the dish. When I asked, I was told they also don’t use tamarind paste in their version. For me, that’s a key ingredient—without it, the dish lacked the signature tang and depth that make Pad Thai what it is. As a result, it was very bland and lacked the flavour I was expecting. The chicken itself was nicely cooked. The Massaman curry tasted decent, but the beef was sliced into very thin slithers rather than the usual tender chunks we’ve had in the past. The service was warm and the lady we spoke with was very kind, which we appreciated. However, the food just didn’t live up to our personal expectations, especially for the price we paid. Prae went the extra mile and prepared some divine Thai fresh spring prawn rolls in rice wrappers accompanied by a special dipping sauce. This was followed by platters of freshly prepared mixed Thai starters, soups, bowls of green, massaman and penang curries and pad thai. All full of flavour (thank you Prae and Bev). We had two chefs in our family party who had a great evening! The staff were fabulous and really looked after us. Water jugs replenished without asking. These little touches make all the difference. As you take your own alcohol (just pay corkage) you can enjoy your favourite celebration drinks without breaking the bank. Bottles were delivered earlier in the day and chilled to perfection We sorted the menu in advance as we were a large party - everything ran so smoothly....
Read moreI was staying in Monmouth with a friend and we decided to have dinner at Whole Earth. The restaurant is small, but has a great atmosphere and Prae, the owner, is very welcoming. Each dish was freshly cooked and absolutely delicious. The Pad Thai was the best I have eaten. My companion had the Pad Nam Prik Poa which I tried and it was very tasty, with a good spicy heat. The cost was very reasonable, and we took our own drinks for which we paid a small amount in corkage. i would thoroughly recommend this restaurant and will be visiting again when I am...
