Me and my partner came on Easter Sunday, it was quite busy. There was a menu online that I was looking at that was different to the menu they had in the pub. I asked the lady serving us if I could just have some hummus and flatbread as a starter (this was on the online menu). She said that this wouldn't be a problem. When the starters came, I was given a platter of mixed breads, olives, balsamic vinegar and hummus. I said to the lady that I didn't ask for this. This was on the new menu and was double the price of the hummus and flatbread. She apologied and said the lady serving made a mistake. I was then brought hummus and some bread (they said they didn't have any flat bread). This was very very yummy and the homemade bread was still warm when it came out. My partner had the garlic mushrooms and they were delicious. I ordered a Turkey roast dinner for my mains and my partner ordered the burger and chips. When the mains came out though, we were brought 2 roast dinners. The lady apologised and my partner had to wait 10-15 minutes for his burger and chips. Overall, the food was high quality and I would highly reccomend. The waiting time was quite long, it's understandable though, given it was a Bank Holiday. The communication between staff could have been at a higher standard. The only frustrating thing that was bothering us was dogs inside the pub barking constantly during our visit. Even customers sitting by us were complaining. It's not a pub to come to if you want...
Read moreFood is excellent but pub gets overcrowded at busy times. Whilst I do not object to eating places being "dog friendly", The Benllech does not operate areas specifically designated for our 4 legged friends but openly allows a free for all which results in dogs anywhere and everywhere. At busy times this can create an uncomfortable atmosphere and result in some dogs effectively blocking the walkway between tables and slso unnecessary barking. On a recent visit, the pub was particularly busy and I personally witnessed a young child accidentally stepping on the tail of a dog which was lying across the walkway from where she was sitting en route to the toilet. The dog instantly turned on the child and even frightened my party as we were sitting at the table directly across from the dog's owner's table. There was a lot of barking and screams from the young child who was absolutely frozen to the spot with fear. This was quite an horrific incident which could quite easily have had a far worse outcome. In my opinion, the landlord needs to take a more proactive role to ensure the safety of their customers (and the safety of our 4 legged friends) if they wish to encourage and entertain a policy of all customers of all ages being welcome, with or...
Read moreJust had the worst meal I've had in a long time. If I could give it zero stars I would.
After many good meals, I was incredibly disappointed this evening. So many bad dishes.
4 adults. 1 good starter, 3 terrible. Chicken wings have gone from 9/10 to 2/10. Prawn cocktail was good value given the amount of prawns, but vile given the amount of paprika. Inedible. Both people left 70% Mushrooms OK
2 good mains. 2 terrible Cajun chicken burger was OK. Kofte burger dry and tasteless Pesto & pinenut pasta, the less said the better. Had nicer pot noodles.
2 good desserts
3 kids 1 good main. 2 terrible. Sad thing is, we ordered the same kids meals a few weeks ago and they were very good. Pizza is now shockingly bad. Felt so sorry for my Grandkids having to eat it. A slice of French bread with tomato puree and grated cheese is not a pizza. Chicken goujons were OK. Pretty good actually. Possibly the best dish of the night, such a shame it was for a 3 year old who probably didn't appreciate how lucky they were.
The sad thing is, the staff are brilliant but the business will suffer if they continue to serve food which is well below the standard clients have grown to expect. Frequently spend £200+ but we certainly won't be heading back...
