The Cinnamon Tree — Restaurant in Wales

After giving this place a few tries I can't say I'd recommend it. If you're happy with a generic curry, done to an acceptable standard you could do worse, but there isn't much positive to say.

The portions aren't particularly generous considering the prices, and the quality of the meat could be better. I find the menu veers between uber-traditional and strange, with little in between.

After ordering two tandoori dishes this past week I think we'll be steering clear of this place. I was served a very small and sorry looking pile of dry chicken, without any onions or peppers, as is customary at most places of this type. I'm rarely too conscious about price, but paying the same amount for a subpar meal as some genuinely excellent alternatives within a half mile radius annoyed me.

We have been been going to the Cinnamon Tree for well over ten years and have had nothing but consistently excellent food on every occasion - for us this is the must go-to restaurant for an Indian in Cardiff. While the children were growing up it was our 'treat of the week' to grab a take-away. Now all grown-up it has become a 'must have' treat the guys look forward to when coming back home. 'Better than anything you can get in North London' is their word from the street. I couldn't recommend any particular dish as we all like something different from the menu a hot spicey marsala to a yummy vegetarian dall - you can always taste the delicious ingredients - I think we may just have to pop out for...

The Cinnamon Tree was such a wonderful place to visit and I was absolutely astounded by the friendliness and warm welcome of the staff. They were very accommodating in helping choose the food and chilli heat, creating a set of meals for us that were all very tasty (I like very hot chilli-based food and they gauged the heat perfectly). They regaled us with stories and photographs of their homegrown Naga chillies (!) and the best way to prepare and cook with green chillies and that care showed in the food they served.
