Terrible. I first spent nearly 15 minutes queuing to place my order, when the restaurant wasn’t even that busy. The rest of my friends arrived as I had placed my order at the bar, they placed their orders scanning the QR code at the table. My partner then asked the member of staff visible behind the bar to turn one of the smaller TVs on for the F1, which the barman said ‘no we’re only showing football today’. My partner explained there was a small TV by us that no other customers were by and only wanted it on until the football commenced, which eventually the member of staff proceeded. My friends waited nearly 20 minutes for their orders to be acknowledged , and when the member of staff came over to turn the TV over, we explained to him that they’d been waiting nearly 20 minutes for drinks. The member of staff explained that the online orders had not yet been looked at, but said he would sort out drinks. When he did he brought over a glass that was covered in lipstick marks, so changed it, but the replacement still had lipstick marks on it; which made us question the hygiene of the restaurant and the standards they set for their employees. One of my friends orders arrived at the table, it was a different member of staff that delivered this, whom didn’t say anything as he brought the food to the table, nor asked if my friend needed anything else (cutlery, condiments etc). The rest of the orders then came around 5-10 minutes later, which both were pizzas. One of the pizzas ordered was a Meat Feast, however this order came wrong, as a Pepperoni pizza came, which we told the member of staff, who took it away, with no apology. 10 minutes later the correct pizza came to the table, again no apology for the mix up and...
Read moreFine traditional, old man's pub in the heart of the bay. They have a modest selection of beers at reasonable prices.
During the day it is relatively quiet. It is popular with the post work crowd immediately after working hours. The clientele slowly transforms over the next few hours into an eclectic mix of Cardiffians, Valleys folk, and tourists coming in after a day in the bay or stopping off for a drink before hitting the restaurants and bars in the bay.
It can have a bit of a rough edge in the early evening if groups of young men wearing sports clothes and baseball caps from some of the less privileged areas of Cardiff nearby descend on the bar. However, I have never seen any actual trouble here.
Only a few years back, this was a popular meeting point for the political classes from the nearby National Assembly for Wales to come for drinks. It was not unusual to see party groups huddled together making merry, party leaders and ministers raising toasts, and occasionally overhear some informal political wrangling taking place. Unfortunately the drinking culture at the Assembly has all but disappeared so meeting your local democratic representative sadly involves more...
Read moreThe Eli Jenkins is a go-to spot for anyone looking to enjoy live sports in Cardiff Bay. It’s a lively and welcoming pub with a great atmosphere, especially during big game days. If you’re a sports fan, the multiple screens strategically placed throughout the venue ensure you won’t miss any of the action, whether it’s football, rugby, or any other major sporting event.
The staff are friendly and efficient, even when the place is packed. The drinks selection is solid, with a good variety of beers on tap, and the prices are reasonable for the area. There’s also plenty of outdoor seating if you want to catch some fresh air between games. The food is typical pub grub—decent portions and tasty, perfect for snacking while watching sports.
Overall, The Eli Jenkins stands out as a fantastic spot in Cardiff Bay for sports enthusiasts. Whether you’re with friends or flying solo, it’s one of the best places in the Bay to enjoy a match with a...
