Visited while in Cardiff. Standing alongside Mermaid Quay this is a lovely looking building and is very modern. There is a big floor area on the ground floor and although it is big and spacious with lots of tables and chairs, it did give me a feel of a canteen with all the floor to ceiling glass windows. When we dined there for our evening meal we are upstairs towards the back and it felt far more relaxed and comfortable and more like a spoons. Both our breakfast and evening meals were lovely and of high quality. There are outside seating areas that look over Cardiff Bay. Another great feature is the glass staircase which is very unusual. This building is quite striking when viewed from the bay and I would recommend a visit No parking on site as its in the bay area but there is one behind Mermaid Quay nearby.

Place looked great, nice & bright, spacious with plenty of seating. However service was a little slow, at the bar & for food. Staff didn't appear at all happy or eager serve us. We were left waiting every time we went to the bar. The app to order food wasn't working, no idea why but it wouldn't allow us to add a drink, therefore wasn't able to add the meal to the order. It was the bbq chicken melt for anyone who cares. When I mentioned this to the staff at the bar all he said was that we could order with him. The food wasn't hot, we had pay for sauce but then waited 10mins for it to come out by which point we'd eaten most of our meal. When at the bar I was asked to repeat myself numerous times & at no other establishment have I experienced this so I really don't believe I was talking too quietly as I don't have a volume setting thats quiet. It was a little frustrating as there wasn't any background music playing or any other external noise that would otherwise of been drowning my voice out. Perhaps staff were all having an off day, as I've much better experiences than on this occasion.

Basically my contact is about the Vegan dish I ordered for breakfast. The young man that put it through seemed to have picked Vegetarian and not Vegan. Not sure if he was new. When my breakfast arrived it was the Vegetarian option and so I had to send it back so a fresh Vegan option could be made. When the Vegan breakfast option arrived it didn't include the hashbrowns that is mentioned on the menu. I asked for no tomato and extra mushroom which came yet it also had baked beans which is not mentioned on the Vegan dish yet is mentioned on the Vegetarian dish, it seems the chef mixed and matched? I did speak to a staff member called Charlotte about the above and advised she would speak to the Chefs and also provided a refund on the Vegetarian dish as we were charged that instead of Vegan dish I ordered. Charlotte was pleasant and helpful. Food wise was tasty. I also feel its important that staff get trained about the difference between Vegetarian and Vegan meals as a lot of the staff working seemed confused on what the difference is. It's great that you offer a cooked Vegan option!

Had fish and chips which was lovely, crispy batter. Sat outside on the balcony. Reasonably priced lager which kept its head!! Very popular considering it was a Thursday afternoon. Watch out for the seagulls who will pinch left food from the tables. There is a sign warning you of the seagulls! Update of the outside area: last time I was here (July '19) there was a netting which had been installed which covered the whole of the outside area preventing the seagulls from getting to the tables. We thought it was a fabulous addition. (Strings of fairy lights woven into the netting for the evening might also be a nice addition???? Just an idea.)

All day breakfast that should come with two eggs came with none. Server walked off without trying to justify or explain this. When called back about it I just got told they didn't have any and they'd put an extra sausage on instead. Who wants a breakfast without eggs? Wpuld have chosen something else if they'd had the courtesy to tell me in advance. Also ordered a pepperoni pizza which was soggy and floppy with little pepperoni on it. Avoid. So poor. And I normally like a Spoons. Also ordered two drinks - raspberry and rhubarb - and got two raspberry. Total shambles and they don't give a toss.
