I've used this pub for quite a few years now but recently the food has gone downhill! Last time I ordered a curry with garlic bread...the rice was solid, as if it had been out on the hotplate all day...except for the rice left under the curry bowl & the nann bread was supposed to have garlic on...I tasted no garlic, probably because it was more like a crisp bread! Overall, had I not been so hungry, I'd have returned it all...except that the staff didn't seem to give a shîte whether I enjoyed it or not...I was going to say something to whoever collected my plate but I took my eye off the ball for 30 seconds & it was gone...he didn't even ask if I was finished, let alone if I enjoyed it!! I will probably go to this pub again as the price of the beer is good but I won't be eating any more of their food & I'll just have to accept that the bar staff now, don't really give a hoot whether you enjoy the experience or not.

Wetherspoons #116 The Gatekeeper is a large, two story pub, with a mezzanine level, situated on the northern side of the City Centre, nearly opposite the Principality Stadium. It is decorated in a more modern style, and felt more like a department store than a pub, with a glass lift between floors - which appeared to be in frequent use. There is also a second bar on the upper level. Rather busy when I visited and it took a few minutes to get served at the bar. Ordered a pint of Cwrw Gorslas beer, which was in good condition. Had breakfast at the Prince of Wales branch around an hour earlier, so didn't experience food on this occasion.

Nice, Friendly Staff & plenty of covid guidance in place. Supported me to use App as was having difficulty - upon entry I was greeted by a group of Males smoking by main entrance & a Bin Lorry that stank , I don't smoke but could smell it when I sat down & had my drink - I found it unfair that Non Disabled people were using disabled toilets "because they regulars" yet I had to use toilets that felt like an age away - not the best wetberspoons I've been to but 4* is what I give as staff did try help me

I am not one to complain or leave bad reviews but I am utterly shocked at the way myself and my friends were treated by the staff at this pub last night. It was my first night out in a long while and was really looking forward to a quiet drink. I had not long arrived at the pub and was sat at the table with friends when a doorman and a manager of the pub came up to me and asked to have a word with me, he then told me i needed to leave the pub, i thought it was some kind of joke to start with so i asked why and he said they had watched me on the cameras and i had entered through the wrong door . I had entered through the front entrance that i have always came through previously. I told them the door clearly said "entrance only" but since covid measures had come into place they have changed the front entrance into a "smoking area" i would like to say that this was in no way clear, there were some barriers there which had been pushed open by previous people so as the taxi dropped me off outside i just walked through not thinking anything of it. I was humiliated by all this and i am in complete shock at just how this was blown out of proportion. All they needed to do was tell me not to use that door next time but to be asked to leave when we had just ordered drinks was disgusting . When my friend asked the manager for her name she was extremely rude and refused to give her name. Disgusting behaviour and the staff have clearly let the covid measures power go to their heads. I appreciate bar and pub staff have had a tough time this last year but that's no way to treat customers. I wont be going here again! sorry for the long rant but this is a sign of things to come with this place so i would avoid and try another Weatherspoons. I felt targeted for whatever reason and I'm not expecting a 5* pub service as its just a spoons however i was not expected to be kicked out just for walking through the wrong door, anyone would think i was fighting or...

COMMENTING ON MY NATIVE LANGUAGE, THEN NOT LETTING ME IN The security commented on my native language, asking whether I am speaking some kind of a ‘special code’ - I was talking polish to my friend while he was about to check my ID. I didn’t appreciate the ‘joke’ so I sarcastically Answered ‘yeah I am speaking a special code’. But then he asked whether it was polish or not. Then he said that it’s not my ID, that the person on my ID doesn’t like look me. He asked me additional questions like date of birth and my name, which I obviously said right. He then asked his colleague to have a look at my picture and confirm whether that’s me or not - ‘Nahh, sorry’ he said. They asked me about my bank cards to confirm my identity - imagine just to go to spoons, which I didn’t have on me (Never carry anything else than my phone and ID especially on nights out). I felt so embarrassed and ashamed. I have never been in a situation like that before. I fly to different countries with the same ID and not even one person on an airplane had doubts whether that’s me in the picture or not. I would just think it’s okay to be cautious etc but I didn’t appreciate commenting him on my language, investigating my nationality and afterwards saying I can’t be let in because I am not me basically. Unbelievably rude, definitely...

The bar staff are fab, this is the only reason I gave them 2 stars. however the manager and a certain door man not so. Tough times at present snd then the 10pm time comes into play. I received my last order just before 9.55 last Friday when the doorman came up to me 2 min later and said drink up you have 5 min and then you have to get out. Where is the 20 min drink up time??? He ignored me snd went up to 3 younger men snd said the same, where one said I just bought these drinks, doorman said tough get out - this went on as the man said what about the 20 min drink up rule, Welsh Giv said 10pm last orders with 20 min drink up time - the bouncer said get out with the manager standing there not saying a word when the bouncer manhandles the young man tipping the stool and threw him out head first via the double doors. I was disgusted with this display by the staff, totally out of order There are no signs to say you have to leave at 10pm but surely you would stop serving at 9.30 if you want people out at 10. I think The Gatekeeper should have a long look...
