The Sandwich Cellar — Restaurant in Wales

Food was good on the whole, quality of meat was premium standard, reflected in the price.

No option other than fried eggs, which felt awkward when we asked for scrambled egg...

Obviously named the Sandwich Cellar but some customers had rolls. Personally I would have preferred my bacon on a roll.

The wives GF roll was frozen and had to be taken back. A generous reimbursement was given. This was a result of the staff being completely overwhelmed by what appeared to be regular day to day trade.

Coffee was lovely, but very very small.

This is a lovely café situated in a small alleyway called The Backfold, which cuts through from the High Street to the front main entrance to the Castle and the main car park. If you're looking for a good British breakfast or brunch, or lunch, this is the best in Hay. Homemade, order by choosing from the outside board, choose a table number and then enter the café. Stopped here with a hungry teen while exploring the town. Unexpected find up a narrow alleyway. Didn't want to spend huge prices for his hollow legs but this hit the spot perfectly - both had a sandwich and drink for a reasonable price. Biggest hit for me - not a coffee aficionado - was being able to get a mug of instant coffee! We sat outside on a dry day - although lots of parasols not sure what it would be like on a wet day as the indoor seating didn't seem extensive. However, would definitely recommend this...
