Stayed here for a long weekend with friends. Firstly the location is ideal. You are about a 10 minute flat walk into the centre of Hay on Wye to ideal for exploring the town getting supplies or eating out. The glamping tents are close to the river in a lovely secluded woodland. There is lots of space to roam and explore on the site and for kids to play or kick around a football etc. We were there to fish although there are only a couple of good spots at the property but there is more on club waters near the site. Tents are brilliantly equipped with own bathrooms and toilets and plates, cutlery kitchen utensils etc. very comfortable beds and bedding. Outdoor fire pits/ grills and seating with plenty of wood! There’s a cool box supplied also (which kept things cool for a weekend) so you have everything you need. Hosts incredibly friendly and helpful. My only slight picky bit was that the tents were a little dark inside but it wasn’t really an issue. Would definitely return and would 100% recommend. Will wonderful experience

What a wonderful little gem! We stayed in Meadow for 4 nights, with our 3 year old and we had the most amazing break. It was so lovely to switch of from technology, and there was plenty to do. The Treehouse had everything we needed. I was a bit worried about being cold (as I am someone who feels the cold!), but the log burner did a great job. We loved cooking on the fire pit, and the convenience of the gas stove was a nice little back-up! The attention to detail is great and a lot of thought has gone into ensure it's child friendly - not least the wonderfully crafted/carved play area. Hay on Wye is a lovely town, friendly people, independent shops, all taking Covid seriously, but in a very normal and welcoming way - which made us feel safe and at ease. I wouldn't hesitate to book again and would recommend to anyone looking for something a bit, and back to nature, different without sacrificing comfort.

We had an amazing stay in the Meadow at By the Wye. The accommodation has everything you could need with lots of thoughtful extra touches (I won't list them because we really enjoyed the surprises!). It was spacious, warm, has lots of different areas to chill out in and it has lovely views over the river. The surroundings of the tent were unbelievable - hearing the water and birds chirping every morning really made our holiday and you can tell the hosts really care about the nature around you too. There are countless gorgeous walks in the immediate area too. We've done lots of 'glamping' before, but this place really does feel special. Thank you to the hosts - we look forward to returning again one day!

Before our stay at By-the-Wye I didn’t believe I could use the words luxury and camping in the same sentence… oh how wrong I was! I have visited hotels that should take a leaf out of this campsites book!||When we arrived, we were greeted by Dan on his quad bike who escorted us with our bags to our safari tent. He was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. The forest path to our tent “meadow” was an exciting mini adventure for the kids, with a series of magical and playful enchantments everywhere we looked. Fairy treehouses, wood carvings a large spider hanging in the trees and an entire woodland play area were just a few of the vast “story book” like amusements on our route.||The five Safari tents were dotted along the riverbank all with splendid views of the River Wye.||Our tent was spacious and cleverly designed with a section we could close off for sleeping children!||The hamper / kid’s goody bags were a warm welcoming treat with local produce including, crisps, chocolate, coffee, Welsh cakes, milk etc. There was also a great selection of games, puzzles and books to enjoy. Thank you.||The kitchen had all the mod-cons, gas top, kettle, cutlery, eco-friendly products, utensils and a super cool ‘cool box’ which kept all our food (and beer) cold for the duration of our stay.||The kids bedroom had a double bed and a over head single bunk bed, the master bed was a king. All the mattresses were of a high standard! They must launder the bedding because it was so fresh and crisp! They also offer a cot bed which you must book before your arrival. ||In the living area there was a wood-burning stove and a bag of complimentary logs, we visited during a heat wave so didn’t get to use this but I can imagine it would be a perfect way to warm up after a cold winter’s day walking the Offas Dyke path (which runs through the heart of the site). We did however enjoy the outside firepit & BBQ in the evening. ||The huge decking was our favorite place to relax - from coffee in the morning to some alfresco dinning in the afternoon! The setting was just perfect! What has been created there is really special, it’s child friendly but not too much so! The “cwtch” looks ideal for a couple’s getaway and is tucked away closer to the waters edge for extra privacy.||The entire tent was absolutely immaculate 10/10 for cleanliness. It was like we were the first people to ever use it!||Oh, and I nearly forgot about the shower… camping, luxury!|| We have already booked again for next year....

Enjoyed a wonderful stay in Meadow over husbands birthday. We were originally booked into Ash, but Dan and his family were really thoughtful and moved us into Meadow to have more privacy (as the fire area faces the Meadow, whereas with Ash it faces the path/other tent) and also to be further from the other group also staying at the time (who were on a yoga retreat and planning to do 'primal screaming'). |The tent and furniture was beautifully made and layer out very well. Beds were really comfy. Kitchen area worked fine, an additional tea towel, and chopping board would have been helpful, but we managed fine. Plenty of glassware, crockery and cutlery. The soap + shower products (you have to use the eco friendly ones provided) are really lovely. |The weather was chillier than often for the end of April, but the wood stove in the tent kept us warm, and we were grateful for being topped up with logs. A really lovely touch by the By-the-Wye team was the socks in the welcome hamper, keeping our toes warm. Additional blankets on the beds and hot water bottles also provided, they really do think of everything!|The deck outside overlooking the river xnd meadow is spacious and comfortable, although we didn't spend as much time out there as we hoped, could just imagine it being perfect in the summer.|Lastly the little touches of fun and intrigue along the path are a testament to all of Dan and his families hard work.|Would definitely recommend a stay...

This place was an AMAZING find!!

Off-grid tree-houses with all the conveniences of home plus some real luxuries by the side of the river Wye!!

The Booking Procedure was great, all the information we might need was provided in advance and Edith was able to answer our few questions.

The facilitites on site were superb!! Everything was beyond our expectations - so well equipped and super comfortable

The welcome from Dan was wonderful, he took the time to show us how everything worked - the woodburner in the tent, the firepit for cooking and the sauna for complete relaxation; all of which were generously stocked with wood and the BEST firelighters I've ever seen - and told us a bit of the development of the site which was fascinating

The welcome pack was a wonderful surprise full of scumptious things and THE most snuggly socks (which were very much appreciated ;-) ).

The breakfast we'd ordered was both generous and delicious and eating outside on the veranda immersed in the natural world was blissful

We can't think of a single thing that was missing or could be improved on - The site is a truly magical retreat and the By The Wye Team couldn't be more welcoming or helpful

We're recommending the site to all our friends and are looking forward to visiting again soon for a longer stay

an easy 10/10 score on...
