I really want this place to do well which is why I am leaving a review. Overall, the food was really good, but there are areas for improvement.
Firstly, if you select well from the menu then the food is really good, but there are some items on the menu that you wouldn’t be as impressed with as you would the signature dishes. Bit of a let down if you don’t avoid. The venue could benefit from having a cut down menu to ensure the food delivered is really nice & doesn’t have a weakness.
Secondly, we visited on peak night, there was a DJ, but town isn’t what it used to be and you didn’t really need a DJ - focus on the food and make it a nice intimate setting for a date night or group dinner. We came for the food as this place seemed like one of the few authentic Indians in the town in a sea of Indians that have been adapted for British tastes/taste buds. All the foundational elements are there and would personally prefer this place to go down the route of a Regency (Queensbury) than be a bar/restaurant where it is hard to eat because of the music level. Focus on great food and even show the football and you will fill a huge gap in the market.
A lot is good about this place - great location to offer something different in town centre, flavourful dishes that are more traditional and authentic, friendly staff, but it is just missing the mark to attract people like myself and my friends. Focus on the food and optimise the menu and create a more chilled atmosphere to appeal to couples and groups of friends rather than creating an atmosphere which is too loud with a DJ playing to...
Read moreThe food was generally bland, uninspired and lacking anything worth noting. Relative to other Indian restaurants in the area this place was unsatisfactory with regards to vegetarian options. In general, I often find that at indian restaurants the starters should generally be good and the mains are what show the true character of the restaurant. Hence, with that in mind, the starters were decent setting a reasonably strong introduction to the meal. However, those initially encouraging signs where most misleading. The mains were generally greasy, bland and an insult to the Indian cuisine. The lamb was absolutely vile, texture wise it was slimy, greasy - an utter displeasure to consume. The butter chicken was sub par, as the consistent theme of bland food remained. Staff weren't very attentive but once you overcame the hurdle of getting their attention (which was surprisingly difficult when there were only 2 other tables there, on a Friday night as well - bit discouraging), staff were friendly, well mannered individuals. The music was far too loud, making it difficult for conversation amongst guest, additionally, the dj was clearly a novice. As someone who generally likes the genre of music being played it was disheartening to see such music butchered by poor transitions and strange background beats. As someone who has frequented many Indian restaurants in this area, in such a saturated market I would be astonished to see anyone recommend this establishment over many of its...
Read moreWe went on sunday evening so it was not too busy, amazing interior if you like dim lighting and kind of a bar setting but also has a fancy side which i loved, the owner is lovely and greets all of the customers and runs through the menu with recommendations and if you don’t know what anyhting means. she showed us the artificial garden seating outside which is what i saw in a few pictures and for the summer it would be amazing! they are also dog friendly and have a few tables outside, it’s a pub style indian restaurant but also a nice place for family or group dinners in the early evening . The food was served at a good time and didn’t have to wait very long, all the staff were extremely nice and quality of food was amazing, I recommend the tandoori style fish it is very authentic and haven’t tasted anything like that in the UK, the only issue is parking (town center parking is like a 5 min walk to the restaurant) and it’s at the end of town center where not many people go. I’m extremely happy with my meal and definitely recommend, i’ll be...
