Had family visiting from Yorkshire for Fathers Day and a special birthday. The obvious place to take them (we thought) was Cote as have previously had lovely meals there and our family visit the Cote in Yorkshire as they also enjoy it. We arrived slightly early for our booking (booked a month ago) and were seated with drinks orders taken. We then ordered 4 aperitif’s, 4 starters and 5 mains and then waited. One aperitif came out after 20 mins then 15 mins later the second came out and then 15 mins later our starters were delivered after already telling the waiter that our aperitif’s has not arrived. The young lad carrying the tray then walked out of the room and stood in another section of the restaurant with our starters. After 10 mins they came back and we still hadn’t received our 2 outstanding aperitif’s and he proceeded to do the same again. We finally received our aperitifs and they asked if we could take our starters at the same time which we refused as we had not ordered them to be delivered at the same time. After that we ate our aperitif’s and 15mins later received 2 of our starters and had to ask for the other 2, which when they arrived (Calamari) were cold and rubbery. They took away and re-made the Calamari and we finished the starters. We then waited an additional 45mins for our mains which (thankfully) were all correct and warm! We chose not to have desert we went elsewhere as we were going to add candles for a birthday surprise but didn’t think they would actually make their way to us! Finally when our £190 bill came it still had £20 service charge attached and with no offer of any reduction! There were 6 tables of people in our section of the restaurant an 5 tables were complaining with one just walking out to try and find somewhere else to eat! Was so disappointed and embarrassed with this kitchen and managerial service but could not fault our waiter (Dominic) who made every effort to apologise and fix what he could for us and clearly was embarrassed with the situation! We expected more from Cote as per its reputation and previous experience and specifically how the poor service should have been managed and addressed. Extremely disappointed and ruined what should have been a...
Read moreThis restaurant is a great place to spend time and is probably the best location of any restaurant in Farnham. The staff were very good and enhanced our experience. However the food was mediocre to poor. My wife had crab salad to start, it was poorly presented and difficult taste the crab. I had the salmon rillettes and pickles. The salmon was pretty tasteless and the pickles a bit limp. For main course my wife had half a lobster and chips. While the chips were very good the lobster Could only have been just legal to catch as it was so small and it was overcooked and mushy. My main course was a mushroom and camembert tart with a poached egg together with a French bean and courgette salad.. It was small, the poached was the size of a quail's, it was hard, there were few mushrooms on the tart and those that were there were overcooked and tasteless. The French bean and courgette salad turned out to be some watercress with an unidentifiable watery white dressing. I complained about my meal and the staff took of the cost of my main course from the bill. With two glasses of wine the bill was still £77.39. My advice is visit this restaurant for it's great location, have a couple of drinks but as far as food is concerned stick to the sharing board of cheeses and meat. Lastly be nice to the staff they...
Read moreMay 17th 2024. Arrived at 3:00 pm for late lunch early dinner. Sat outside with a blue spring sky above and a gentle breeze. I had : Poulet Breton Rôti 17.75 Responsibly reared in Northern France Corn-fed marinated roasted half chicken, served with confit potatoes and a herb salad 597 kcal With the Recommended with Sauce Diane 2.75 37 kcal Very tasty but looked like Chicken and chips! The herb salad was a few sprigs of parsley with a small slice of onion! It was cooked very well and was flavoursome. Seemed very expensive as we had to buy the greens also. The waiter was very helpful in letting us know that one portion would be enough for two people.
My husband had :
Fish Parmentier 15.75 Haddock, prawns & salmon in a white wine & leek sauce, topped with potato purée and a Comté crust, served with a herb salad 640 kcal It was delicious, I was informed.
For pudding we had the apple Tarte Tatin which was superb and generous, with a decent scoop of ice cream.
Because of the waiter’s help, the delicious tarte tatin and the lovely atmosphere, we would revisit.
In fact the waiter was brilliant on every level, kind, chatty but not too much, attentive and made us feel important and well...
