Extremely POOR Service. Doctors Tonic more like "Doctors Toxic". Very disappointing as me and my friends felt discriminated by the staff.

It's actually with a heavy heart writing this review about Doctors Tonic as I usually come here with friends for a great time, catch up and drinks. It was a nice place to socialise BUT after my experience last night - I will not be going back.

Me and my friends (me as an Asian woman and my other 3 Black Women friends) went to visit the pub for what we thought would be an amazing night. Despite of the pandemic and all the horrible things that happened this year - this was the VERY FIRST TIME we saw see each other after YEARS as we are old school friends. Therefore, we were very excited to meet up and catch-up with a few drinks! However, the whole night we were treated so badly... from the staff SPILLING drinks on our table and almost on us! With NO apology!!!

Firstly, I would like to say we understand the new policies amid Covid-19. We ladies aren't kids, we all have full-time jobs and understood the hardships and difficulty of what this year has bought to all people across different industries. However, to treat us with NO RESPECT was not right, additionally when came specifically to that pub to "Eat out to Help Out". From the very beginning the bouncers were already picking on us asking as to "behave" in a manner - where everyone was talking so loud in the pub as after all it is a Saturday night!

But the worst thing is for the staff to disregard our concerns as customers and LIE to our faces. We ORDERED AND PAID for something that in the end we did not get. Our group of 4 ordered 8 shots of TEQUILA (2 for each which costs £3.55 each shot and had to pay £7.10 pp). Now, you may think it's petty or "no big deal" but for us it was NOT about the shots it was about the POOR SERVICE AND THE PRINCIPLE. When the waiter bought our drinks, we ended up receiving shots of SAMBUCA... NOT TEQUILA... they served us shots of Sambuca with lime and salt... how does this make sense? Before taking the drinks, we knew it wasn't right, we smelt it and knew it wasn't what we ordered. So we kindly told the staff and asked if we could RECEIVE WHAT WE ORDERED AND WHAT WE PAID FOR. The staff ultimately ignored OUR RIGHT and explained that "due to Covid and all the health and safety restrictions in place, they cannot replace our drinks as we've already touched them" - by the way, we understand this, but this has got NOTHING TO DO with serving us what we ordered in the first place and if we are talking about cross contamination here - the staff can touch our glasses, pour our drinks and shots before we drink from it? How does this make sense? The staff were all using the same excuses and making excuses for this boy who served us and who EVEN gave us 3 different options of Tequila flavours when in the end we said we only wanted the standard / classic Tequila. Which is how we know he KNEW we wanted Tequila.

He then made a lie when we confronted him CALMLY AND COLLECTIVELY by the way... and he said "No no I asked if you wanted ALTICA" and you all said yes... Firstly... WHAT IS ALTICA?! Why would we order something we have no idea about! He then proceeds to explain that Altica was their own PERSONAL brand of Sambuca... again this boy has made up lies in front of his customers to save his error. Me and my friends have all worked in the hospitality industry as baristas, waitresses, bar staff etc. you name it - WE ALL MAKE MISTAKES AND WE ALL MAKE ERRORS, IT HAPPENS. But the fact he chose to lie to his customers and for the management to cover up for him was DISGUSTING. Hospitality is all about tending to your customers, ensuring they receive the best service and to make their guests / customers feel comfortable and not unpleasant. However, unfortunately we did not receive this from Doctors Tonic as we felt discriminated against, ignored, treated unfairly and...

Simple minded liars and pictures to prove it.

3 of our 6 meals were burnt or had things missing. 2 arrived 25 minutes before the other meals.

I had the salt beef burger, described as "Burgers layered with salt beef" and a bunch of toppings. I have the menu description, picture and my meal picture attached to this review, take a look. So when one burger arrived with a little salt beef and the toppings I wasn't happy. I asked for an extra beef burger at the tired, old bar. But, ooooh noooo!

I was told that on their kitchen description, it tells them to use one burger, half it, put salt beef between them and serve that. The bar girl told me I get one burger. I pointed out that the menu states 'burgers' and that the picture shows two. I told her in no uncertain terms to get me another. 20 minutes later, 1 beef burger arrived at the table. Everyone had long finished and my meal was cold.

It wasn't even nice food anyway. My burgers were dry and devoid of flavour. The service was abysmal. I heard a chef shouting about the burger on the way to the toilet, I saw a waitress laughing about it and discussing it. On top of the arguing with me, about a damncbueger...I'll never go back.

Even the prices aren't enough, pay a cheap, trash price, get cheap trash, served by an idiot.

This place really needs a good leader. As a former head chef, I really wanted to walk in to that kitchen and ask them what the hell do they think they're doing. But I'm not sure they were smart enough to...

Didnt have the best experience...met up with my son during his lunch break along with my daughter and grandson...we order through the app as soon as we sat down. The young lass that came over explained the menu was limited as the freeze had broken down, we'd have gone somewhere else but my son had limited time so we thought we'd stay, but the menu was very limited, not much choice at all...anyway we went ahead and ordered and then we waited and waited and waited...I ended up having to go find out what had happened to our food...my grandson was very hungry and starting to get quite grizzly...I'd walked him round while we were waiting to try and distract him...well I just couldn't understand what the ait was all about, there was hardly anyone in there ...anyway the food did eventually arrive, but by now my son had barely any time left and had to rush it down to get back to work. The young lass that was serving us was really pleasant and apologetic but to be honest what was meant to be a little get together with my family as ruined. All in all I was...

The good bit (4*) - the upstairs Green Room is an good venue which puts on interesting local bands as well as occasional nationally known ones. Mostly but not exclusively punk, indie and rock. The less good bit (2*) - downstairs is a fairly stereotypical Greene King where the beer is average (and even on a Friday night possibly off) and the wait to be served is longer than average. There are not enough staff (& on the most recent visit not enough staff to open the bar in the Green Room). The Doctors Tonic was used as one of the Starbuck-ed pubs in The Worlds End film (The Old Familiar) and it is clear why.

Updated my review after 2 further visits & having a much improved experience with the customer service. Not sure if there has been staff changes or training given but a big improvement and seemed fair to reflect that in adding an extra star. Staff were friendly and the food arrived quickly. My only gripe was the lack of menu options - the food I selected was my 3rd choice after being told that they didn't have any pies or fish options (was ordering at 3pm on a Sunday).
