Johnsons Traditional Fish & Chips — Restaurant in West Lindsey

This was my 1st visit here ,I was actually a bit surprised to find 5 or 6 customers already waiting inside the premises as it wasn't long after the 4.30pm Saturday evening opening time.The Staff on duty were very pleasant & chatty with the customers in the queue & even thanking everyone as they left with their food.The waiting time wasn't too long .I just tried a Regular size Chips ,priced @£2.85 which was served in a box with plenty of Salt & Vinegar.I did pay by cash but card payments are also accepted. Once outside I found the chips to be fantastic, à good size portion, pipping hot & very tasty,just how traditional chips should be .I do now understand why this Fish & Chips shop appears to be very popular with the locals. Extremely overrated fish and chips. Obviously they have good publicity friends. This is NOT the best fish and chip shop in the town as some will tell you. The best is Leons on Church Street IMHO. Johnsons chips leave a lot to be desired, often cold by the time you get them home, with them insisting on boxing everything without proper insulation. The fish I have had has been spoiled by a thick and very stodgy batter, which leaves a fatty residue within the fish itself. On the plus side, the fish is big and they are very very generous with their helpings of chips, so in that respect you get much more for your money than you would elsewhere. Very disappointed 😔 after reading tons and tons of great reviews we decided to give Johnson’s a go again , lady who served me got my order wrong twice , chips weren’t very nice chewy and tasted like they’d been cooked hours ago , my fish was over cooked dry and rubbery , there was scallop missing from my order which probably was a good thing cause the other one wasn’t even cooked and still raw at places , it used to be one of the best places and I used to visit often sadly I won’t return **I’ve given two stars cause bloke and his mrs are lovely and place is very clean but it just doesn’t deliver on the food like it used to...
