A pretty much perfect dining experience! From the outside Whistlers might look a little small and odd but it was nothing but a pleasure from start to finish. The service was warm, welcoming and friendly (not to mention impeccable) The decor is a little quirky and different but comfortable.
The most important thing is the food though and we were blown away by it! Our starters were delivcious and inventive - a gin and beetrot cured smoked salmon (the special) and lovely smoke haddock croquettes.
For our mains I had a double beefburger with chorizo and chips, all of which was great - lots of places do good burgers and chips, to be fair, but the chips were some of the better ones I've had, the beef had some good meatiness and the chorizo set it all off nicely. My wife's main of parma ham wrapped pork tenderloin, however, was incredible. Incredible! It came with roasted hasstleback potatoes, a divine blue cheese sauce and grilled cabbage. Whistlers' grilled cabbage did the impossible and made me love a vegetable that normally inspires extreme apathy in me.
For desserts there was a surprisingly big chocolate chip bread and butter brioche pudding with custard, and a heavenly peanut butter parfait with dark chocolate mousse and salted caramel, a wonderful mix of tastes and textures.
All of this came, along with a couple of yummy cocktails, to a very reasonable price (especially considering the area).

Read moreMy partner and I visited Whistlers over the weekend for dinner – what can we say, simply stunning. The menu is on another level with delicious food, extremely well executed by Nathan. The scallop and fish cake starters were excellent, as was the cod fillet main; it literally just fell apart. The pesto risotto was a lovely addition and really brought out the flavours of the fish. The bread was on another level, warm and soft (pictures below). There is an extensive wine menu, we enjoyed a couple of bottles of New Zealand white - needless to say Kerry was extremely informative (and welcoming), as was Hannah and Jacob (waiting staff) who couldn’t do enough. They are a credit to Whistlers. As the evening progressed we could see it was popular with the vast numbers arriving, which again illustrates the fantastic food and service. We will be back that's for sure, make sure you give it a try if in Chippy or nearby. You won’t be...
Read moreA fantastic experience. Wonderful food, atmosphere & service.
My partner & I had the tasting menu at Whistlers as a treat to celebrate a special occasion and every course was excellent, the range of flavours complementing each other on every dish. Our particular favourites were the monkfish tail with celeriac mash and apple, and the fillet steak. One thing to note is that the tasting menu will change regularly depending on the availability of fresh ingredients - this didn't bother us as we were open to trying new things but if you're keen to confirm what will be on the menu I'd recommend calling on the day.
The service was equally great - we were made to feel very welcome and all staff were friendly and talkative. This really is a hidden gem and somewhere we will be sure to return to. If you're staying in Chipping Norton then add this to your list, you won't be...
