TL:DR for speed readers: If you're seeing this review, just trust me and go to Amigos. I pinky promise you will have a phenomenal meal and an amazing experience. Vibes 10/10, staff are 10/10 for friendliness and accommodation, food is 10/10, drinks are 10/10. Longer, informative review: Absolutely phenomenal restaurant. I have visited many many times, and it is a favourite amongst my friends and I as a place to meet up, catch up, share a truely delicious meal and enjoy some drinks and a relaxed, delightful atmosphere. The [entree] menu is not massive, but instead has several dishes where you choose your filling (burrito, chimichanga, taco etc.) This means the food is very consistent, and always delicious. This also means they have plenty of options for vegetarians, and several for vegans. Their portions are also generous, and they are always happy to give you a take-away box for any leftovers if you're like me and like to have sides and/or a dessert. The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating to all patrons, and it is easily the best Mexican food I have ever had. They also serve the best Margarita to ever pass my lips. They have different deals on every single day (Margarita Monday is my favourite, followed closely by Taco Tuesday which is 2for1 on Entrees when you buy a Drink). If you are in Bury St Edmunds, whether you don't know where to eat or you have already chosen a restaurant, come to Amigos anyway. As someone who cannot (yet) drive and lives in Ipswich, Amigos is still always my first choice for dining out. I truely cannot sing their praises enough. I am not religious, but God bless all the people that are part of that restaurant; I love you all.

It has been called the country's best Mexican restaurant - and I have to agree. I've eaten a fair bit of Mexican food in (and out of) the UK, and this is the best of our offerings I've had to date. Now you've got your headline, why? We dropped in on the way back from GoApe! in Brandon feeling understandably tired and hungry. Sparkling service from a really fun waiter, huge portions (it's not often I can't clear my plate), delicious food and great value were what we got. Jarritos on the menu is always a good sign. I'm just sad I couldn't stay for dessert, as both the horchata and churros looked excellent over on the next table! As an added point, the loos were spotless as well. We nearly assumed it was closed from the unassuming front, but that had the added advantage of meaning it was not horrendously busy at lunchtime either and service was very quick. Make sure to try the door before concluding it isn't open! If we're back in Bury again, we are looking forward to a return visit. Thanks Amigos!

3 out of our table of four left over half of the food and gave feedback regarding the lack of flavour, texture and quality of the food which was very poor, bland and the chimichanga was like chicken paste inside, my daughters rice had been left under a hot lamp or grill to the point of being to crisp and dry to eat đŸ€ź, Restaurant is quite quaint and the service was fairly good until the waiter either thought he was being funny or clever when asking if I had ever been to a Mexican restaurant before, I am 50 years old and a chef who understands how to put flavours and textures together using fresh ingredients and probably eaten at some of the best restaurants in the Uk including Mexican where they have researched the finest authentic ingredients and combined them so you can taste that hint or chilli, fresh lime, see the chicken and chopped fresh tomatoes and presented it to look delicious đŸ€·

Wow, what a treat. Honestly can’t say anything bad about my experience here. One of those meals where you go “I actually really enjoyed that” and I don’t think I have cleared my plate as quick as that in a while.

To start off.

The restaurant was actually very nearly full when we arrived. We had booked about half an hour earlier than our 7pm arrival time so very short notice. We should not have been able to book but due to an error we had been able to. It didn’t matter, they found us a table very quickly and got us seated.

The menu.

The menu is excellent, everything is described very well and lots to choose from, including some things that I rarely see on Mexican restaurant menus in the U.K. which is very nice.

The food.

Absolutely excellent, can’t fault it. I had the Beef Taquito’s to start, followed by the beef chilli burrito (both of which I recommend). The Taquito’s where a nice balance of flavour and when combined with the Salsa, chunky Guacamole and the crispness of the tortillas was a very nice starter. The burrito was excellent, a very large portion but incredibly tasty. Lots of flavour from all parts of the dish but nothing overpowering, everything complimented each other. There was a bit of a wait on the food however to me this is acceptable with food that good and a restaurant of that size (probably 20 tables max).

The service.

Excellent, quick, attentive, and always with a smile. Can’t say much other than that.

Summary.

One of my my favourite Mexican restaurants is a small restaurant in Guernsey, not many places have been able to come close to this, however, Amigos definitely came close, if not levelled with it. The atmosphere in the restaurant was brilliant as was the service, the food and to be honest everything else about it. It’s one of the reasons we tipped 20%, as I have said in another recent reviews I don’t agree with mandatory tipping, especially when you have a poor experience, but this is the exact opposite of that, not too expected, but well deserving of every penny that was tipped.

The way you get into this restaurant almost makes it feel like a hidden gem up the stairs. I don’t live too close, however I think this is going to become a regular when I want Mexican food.

Would...

Amigos: A taste of Mexico in the heart of Bury St Edmunds Amigos, a vibrant and welcoming Mexican restaurant nestled in the charming town of Bury St Edmunds, offers a delightful culinary experience that transports you straight to the heart of Mexico. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere, adorned with colorful decorations and the lively chatter of happy diners. The menu boasts an impressive array of authentic Mexican dishes, all made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. Whether you're craving sizzling fajitas, hearty burritos, or tantalizing enchiladas, Amigos has something to satisfy every palate. Their extensive vegan menu is also a testament to their commitment to catering to all dietary preferences. One of the standout features of Amigos is their dedication to using locally sourced produce whenever possible. Their meat comes from the renowned St Edmunds Butchers, while other ingredients are sourced twice a week from the town's brilliant grocer, Faraway Foods. This commitment to quality shines through in every bite. But it's not just the food that makes Amigos special. The friendly and attentive staff go above and beyond to ensure you have a memorable dining experience. They're always on hand to offer recommendations or answer any questions you may have, creating a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. Whether you're a seasoned fan of Mexican cuisine or looking to try something new, Amigos is a must-visit. With its delicious food, vibrant atmosphere, and exceptional service, it's no wonder that Amigos has been named the best Mexican restaurant in England. Highlights: Extensive menu with plenty of vegan options Fresh, locally sourced ingredients Friendly and attentive staff Lively and inviting atmosphere Award-winning cuisine Overall: Amigos is a true gem in the Bury St Edmunds culinary scene.
