Wow, what a treat. Honestly canât say anything bad about my experience here. One of those meals where you go âI actually really enjoyed thatâ and I donât think I have cleared my plate as quick as that in a while.
To start off.
The restaurant was actually very nearly full when we arrived. We had booked about half an hour earlier than our 7pm arrival time so very short notice. We should not have been able to book but due to an error we had been able to. It didnât matter, they found us a table very quickly and got us seated.
The menu.
The menu is excellent, everything is described very well and lots to choose from, including some things that I rarely see on Mexican restaurant menus in the U.K. which is very nice.
The food.
Absolutely excellent, canât fault it. I had the Beef Taquitoâs to start, followed by the beef chilli burrito (both of which I recommend). The Taquitoâs where a nice balance of flavour and when combined with the Salsa, chunky Guacamole and the crispness of the tortillas was a very nice starter. The burrito was excellent, a very large portion but incredibly tasty. Lots of flavour from all parts of the dish but nothing overpowering, everything complimented each other. There was a bit of a wait on the food however to me this is acceptable with food that good and a restaurant of that size (probably 20 tables max).
The service.
Excellent, quick, attentive, and always with a smile. Canât say much other than that.
Summary.
One of my my favourite Mexican restaurants is a small restaurant in Guernsey, not many places have been able to come close to this, however, Amigos definitely came close, if not levelled with it. The atmosphere in the restaurant was brilliant as was the service, the food and to be honest everything else about it. Itâs one of the reasons we tipped 20%, as I have said in another recent reviews I donât agree with mandatory tipping, especially when you have a poor experience, but this is the exact opposite of that, not too expected, but well deserving of every penny that was tipped.
The way you get into this restaurant almost makes it feel like a hidden gem up the stairs. I donât live too close, however I think this is going to become a regular when I want Mexican food.

Read moreTL:DR for speed readers: If you're seeing this review, just trust me and go to Amigos. I pinky promise you will have a phenomenal meal and an amazing experience. Vibes 10/10, staff are 10/10 for friendliness and accommodation, food is 10/10, drinks are 10/10.
Longer, informative review: Absolutely phenomenal restaurant. I have visited many many times, and it is a favourite amongst my friends and I as a place to meet up, catch up, share a truely delicious meal and enjoy some drinks and a relaxed, delightful atmosphere. The [entree] menu is not massive, but instead has several dishes where you choose your filling (burrito, chimichanga, taco etc.) This means the food is very consistent, and always delicious. This also means they have plenty of options for vegetarians, and several for vegans. Their portions are also generous, and they are always happy to give you a take-away box for any leftovers if you're like me and like to have sides and/or a dessert. The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating to all patrons, and it is easily the best Mexican food I have ever had. They also serve the best Margarita to ever pass my lips. They have different deals on every single day (Margarita Monday is my favourite, followed closely by Taco Tuesday which is 2for1 on Entrees when you buy a Drink). If you are in Bury St Edmunds, whether you don't know where to eat or you have already chosen a restaurant, come to Amigos anyway. As someone who cannot (yet) drive and lives in Ipswich, Amigos is still always my first choice for dining out. I truely cannot sing their praises enough. I am not religious, but God bless all the people that are part of that restaurant; I...
