Serving Staff Overhaul Needed ....Oh wow! We visited The Bull in Newmarket last night just on the off-chance and was very happy to be seated outside in front of pub - the night reminded me of 14 April 1912 the day the biggest disaster happened, i.e,, the sinking of the Titanic! The only thing which would have made the food more bearable is if Chef had gone down with the ship! Along with the waiting staff. The servers took our orders and we knew we would not get the correct meal as she was not paying attention - it's the only time I've encouontered where there was no choice of how my steak was cooked - you'll get the steak how we cook it" If Jaws from the Bond films had been served it, he'd still be chewing on it1 My steak's accompaniments were a hald tomato, chips and onion rings, which the waitress decided would do better served on the pavement via another diner's shoulders/arms. When we pointed out that my onion rings were under another diner's chair, she said "Oh, yes" and left. The only two staff who were exceptionally helpful - and hardworking - were the lady and gent door staff, they paid more attention to the diners than the pub staff. We were not offered a refund, a free cup of tea or any apology - however it did cause great amusement among the other diners... and finally to top it up, the firsr pint of beer was so flat it had to...
Read moreI visited this pub a few times in August last year while staying at my sons and didn't have any complaints at all. The staff greeted me although busy, they were quick to serve me once free, the food was very good, the gardens were packed and the staff were friendly and very efficient. But last night has put me off going in again. It took ages for the staff to tear themselves away from the banter going on behind the bar to notice me no greetings or smiles as they were too busy messing about with 3 extremely drunk and very loud Americans in the bar who could hardly stand up..... they seemed to find it funny they were using foul language and found it hilarious that one of these drunks sat at next but one table to me and vomited twice covering the table top and floor, and one of the staff laughed and shouted out..... "who left the pizza on the table" ?? Thankfully i had eaten and just bought my 2nd coke but left that and just walked out but won't be going back in there again !! My 2* rating was for the very nice lady who cooked and presented me with a first class burger in a bun with fries followed by chocolate fudge cake and ice cream which were both delicious and...
Read moreFrom the beginning my experience was positive. Called up to book a table for a large party of 16, the man I spoke to was so friendly and warm. On the day of my booking I phoned up to make a modification and again, woman was so lovely over the phone. Upon arrival (which we ended up getting there early), staff were warm and welcoming, and so understanding of the last minute change of time and number of people. They had reserved an entire back section of the pub for us which was lovely. Service was great, with food coming out quickly. The food itself was lovely. Cannot fault at all- would recommend to anyone- for an intimate/cosy meal in a proper traditional pub feeling environment, or even larger part of 10+guests. Really lovely place. Thank you to all of the staff who served us today (on 02/03/2024, sorry I did not...
