Offensive!

Firstly, backed up by the high Google rating, my wife and myself walked in at around 6:27 PM and got accommodated with a table to sit on. Very quickly being asked for drink order and the drinks came very promptly. After that, received no further attention from any staff to care about the food order from our table for 20 mins. They just walked by and walked away. Then we approached a manager-like mid-age man (let’s refer him to Mr. A) to ask for food order service, and he said he had to sorted out the other two tables before he could take ours. That sounded reasonable. However, after waiting and waiting, we became confused why other staff could not came to take our order. Then we asked other passing waitresses/waitors with pens and pads in their pockets about the food ordering. Surprisingly and more confusingly, they couldn’t do it and had to grab Mr. A over. So, the conclusion upon the above feedbacks was that ONLY ONE MAN CAN TAKE FOOD ORDER IN THIS WHOLE RESTAURANT! No wonder we had to wait for ages to have some food. Finally, after 1 hour waiting at around 7:30 PM Mr. A took our order. We had 3-course dinner for both. After ordering the starters and the mains, we were trying to order the dessert together, but Mr. A insist twice on ordering the dessert after, about which we felt a bit weird but did not say anything. The food came quickly, no complaint in terms of portion and taste.

However, after we finished the main course Mr. A came to collect the used plates and I asked Mr. A if we could pack up the unfinished main course and asked “can we order some dessert please?”. He turned a bit impatient and said “Ok, relax, this is a restaurant, not like a Chinese buffet (we are Asian faces) with fast food, it takes a long time to cook the food, just relax and take it easy.” Then my wife confronted him “Chinese food can take a very long time to cook, and is there any problem to ask to order dessert after we have already finished the main course?” Sarcastically, we did not complaint about the 1 hour waiting time before someone could take our food order and he would like to lecture us about his food making and dinning manners. I asked him “What do you mean by ‘not like a Chinese buffet’?” He tried to explain and said he had no offence but words lost all meaning to us at that time as he mentioned CHINESE buffets in the first instance, it felts like that ONLY CHINESE buffets, not mentioning other countries’ buffets, were the cheapest place to have food in rush. Apparently, he had a strong bias and stereotype on both Chinese people and Chinese food and subjectively presumed that we were Chinese. Following his philosophy, we were Chinese people, and we frequently dropped by Chinese buffets to only have fast Chinese food and did not have the decency to properly sit and enjoy the slowly-made fancy food in his fancy restaurant. Ironically, what he did not know was that most Chinese people do not go to Chinese buffets as they did not provide authentic Chinese food which can take days just for preparing one dish on the table and you have to reserve the dish depending on the availability when you reserve the table!

Afterwards, we refused to order the desserts which WERE INCLUDED in the 3-course dinner, and a young lad came to us and tried to sort things out. He said he felt sorry for what his father had said and he would like to compensate by offering discounts on the bill and suggested us take the dessert home and he could make them himself in the kitchen in no time. No complaint about him as he came across with a very good attitude. It was just the experience that had been ruined and we were not in the mood to have any food. We refused the discounts, and the final bill showed the price of the two 3-course dinners and they took the drink price off, but we did not take the due dessert anyway. Just paid and left.

Overall, it was a terrible experience, if you could not bear the slow pace to enjoy the food or you are Asian faces, avoid at all...

Needs a good Gordon Ramsay type overhaul where the staff actually view what service is presented to the customer and taste what is served. A lack of attention to detail and service. Little things that could be addressed and changed could make the experience a lot better. The candle holder on the table remained unlit throughout our meal. If your not going to renew or light the candles then get rid of them. The menus are dog eared and tired, the bill is served in a binder that is battered, worn and tired. The place is a huge open plan room akin to a sports hall that due to the amount of people all chatting, laughing and eating had a din of noise simular to a school canteen as people were all chatting loudly to overcome the din.

Food is under seasoned and lacks taste. The pate was bland and pureed like baby food, served with 2 simple.pieces of bread the ratio of pate to bread was severely off, the chutney was tasty but the salad was the same as the other starter which was a totally different dish. The meatballs were bland and underseasoned and again had no texture, served in a basic tomato sauce that lacked any distinct burst of flavour you'd expect from an Italian sauce, served with a side salad that didn't go with the dish. At least 5 service staff passed or looked at our stacked empty starter plates and didn't clear them. For mains we had the sirloin with pepper sauce and the fillet steak with pepper sauce; the pepper sauce was the same on both dishes and was too overpowering, it covered the whole plate leaving you unable to appreciate the actual steak which was well cooked. Despite getting different steaks the meals tasted the same due to the complete covering of the over powering sauce all over the plate. The steaks were not allowed to shine. Having had many pepper sauce dishes, this sauce wasn't delicious or creamy, it didn't have any redeeming features it was just full on peppercorn sauce. The vegetables were simple chopped boiled carrots and broccoli, very basic, no taste, no flavour. Some dishes you allow the ingredients to speak but this veg was distinctly basic and mass produced. The potatoes were deep fried and lacked any flavour. Partner had chips but they tasted exactly the same as the potatoes because again they were just deep fried. Overall not what you'd expect from what was a professionally cooked italian meal.

We tried 2 cocktails, the cocktail menu was bog standard, battered and dog eared and no attention to detail or thought put into the drinks offered or how they were served. After receiving the menu no one came back to take the order for what seemed like a long period of time. When the cocktails arrived there was no flare for a £7 cocktail, both were served in simple glasses over ice and had one tired strawberry as decoration, neither were nice. The daiquiri was bitter and lacked sweetness. The blue lagoon was sickly and over powered by blue curacao but aside from that lacked any depth or flavour. Both cocktails were lacking in thought, taste and presentation. A simple look at cocktail offerings at nearby establishments like the Archer or the Coal and Cotton will show that their menu could be improved with just a little thought and attention to detail.

The pizza breads served on other tables looked tasty but we didn't try it. Service staff were friendly and polite and working hard but the overall experience on offer lacks any pizazz. Great if you're after a dining experience that's dated and tired. The place needs a complete overhaul to compete as a quality establishment especially when other places nearby offer much more thought and...

First time eating, starters were great, when I asked the waiter for horseradish sauce for my steak the waiter had no idea what it was so had to settle for mustard, the fillet was cooked medium to well done after asking for it medium rare. The waiter never asked how the meal was and didn’t get an opportunity to let them know this. Upon asking if the meal was ok when paying I let the lady know and she said did no one ask if everything was ok to which I answered no. At this point the same waiter came over and said why didn’t you tell me when you asked for the sauce. I said because I hadn’t started my meal yet to which he replied you were half way through which I clearly wasn’t, very arrogant and made me feel like it was my fault, I explained to him if you had taken the effort to ask me if my meal was ok I could have told you to which he replied why didn’t you tell me when you ordered the mustard. Average food, arrogant staff and Siena is much better so won’t be...

Me and my husband found this please on Google maps because we wanted to go out for dinner and not cook at home. We live only 10 mins away but never knew that there was another Italian restaurant close by. Just want to say how shocked we were, the food was amazing we had mussels as a starter for the main we had carbonara and salmon pasta (not sure what the exact name was) and desserts panaccota and crème brûlée. We really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere, staff was amazing too. Food was bought out on time. We definitely will be back with friends and family. Thank you

Was not amused when we initially arrived and a staff member made a phone call after asking how many of us were there... we were seated after the call. Waited a while for someone to take our order, but it was worth the wait. The food was lovely and hot and the staff thereafter became attentive. Overall lovely place. Will defo be back
