Place was pretty much empty with 2 other people there, I ordered a burger with chips, that is all, I asked for a drink and it never arrived, I ended up in there for 2 hours 38 minutes, that's how long it took for me to be waited on, served, and waited on again to take the bill, it's took me less than 10 minutes to eat my burger after the 40 minute wait. I wasn't going to leave a tip, but I gave it half an hour after my bill arrived, and left because no one was waiting. Upon arrival there where 7 staff just sat around laughing looking at there phones.
2 Hours and 38 minutes.
When my food did arrive. One it was almost cold. 2 it was rock solid, I cam only describe the texture as bark from a soft pine. It tasted very heavily of salt with not much other flavour of beer and the cheese seemed to be missing, I ate it anyway because this and the drink I bought but did not recieve came to £20, but with no staff on the bar and waitresses few and far between I had no hope of getting anything resolved.
In all fairness to the staff on the rare occasion I did find them, they where very friendly, but utterly useless at carrying out any tasks that they are employed to do.
As a food critic I take my job seriously, but I honestly don't have the words for the food I consumed today.
I look forward to visiting Morisons up the road and having a £1.49 microwave meal from the freezer this evening.
If I had it my way I would have had the place temporarily shut down whilst the staff are trained and disciplined. But sadly there where no health code violations. Just poorly managed staff amd poorly trained chefs.
A lady sat behind me stated she had a fish allergy, I noticed through her cournversation with a young gentleman that they had experienced the same level of disgust as I had. They left before me with the young fellow complaining that they are taking too long to get change and also left them a tip, stating that he was paying to leave by leaving said tip.
I don't recommend you visit a harvester pub restaurant. They all seem to have horrible tales like this, and the time I decided to visit one, I too fell victim to the criminal the...
Read moreEverything was going well until sugar cone gate and 'George the Charmer' Amanda was our initial server, she was great, so friendly and attentive. Then Amanda finished her shift and alas everything went downhill. Ordered a dessert that came with sugar cone, no sugar cone arrived, enquired as to whereabouts of said sugar cone to be told it doesn't come with one. Showed menu to the contrary, she walked away. George showed up with THE most hostile attitude toward cone giving I've ever come across! Apparently it's an outdated menu, I pointed out that is not our error they should still bring the cone. Apparently he is now going to charge me for a cone. At this point I thought he was going to explode so I rejected the offer to pay for a cone and said let's leave it there. There were two diners at our table who also work for Mitchell's and Butler's and they could NOT believe what had just happened and the absolutely appalling way it was handled. One tried to speak to a manger off to the side to explain george came over again and was rude to her also, it ended up with at least 1 manager, one kitchen staff, 2 servers and the customer on the floor having it out so to speak, unbelievable! When paying for our bill, we were offered apologies and yes we understand that people have 'bad' days but I tell you now, that was NOT a 'bad' day that was a terrible insidious attitude that is representing Mitchels and Butler's company and I'm astounded it's allowed to carry on! Sorry I will not be back for fear of reprisal and would not in good conscious recommend. What a shame this sort of behaviour has been allowed as I doubt this was the first time he's acted this way. Maybe this was the first time he was called on it and rest assured he DID...
Read moreLast visit 25th July 20. Our decision to go back there was from fabulous previous experiences. This time it was a let down. First, upon arrival and confirming our booking we were led to our table. There were three empty tables (no 10, 11 & 12 or 11, 12 &13). We were asked to take the table no 11. We asked if we could sit at table 12 (as it was closest to the bay window) but our request denied as our guide informed us that table was reserved. We were in the restaurant for around 2 hours and spent about an hour outside walking along the beach....the tables remained empty.
Then we ordered food. First starter: Nachos served were off or about to go off (just at the last point of losing its crunch). Prawn balls were fried in old cooking oil I think as the oil was found inside the prawn ball.
Everything else was dry.
Grilled chicken leg was burnt and dry, so was the golden rice. Cod was ok. 8oz rump steak was supposed to done medium but it was burnt and again dry! The chips served were soggy as I think it was fried a good while ago. The garden pea was overcooked and lost its colour!
It was really sad as we have been dining at harvester at various part of the country and this is the first time we experienced such poor standard of food served!! Shocking!
We did not mention anything as we did not want to create a scene and we simply wanted to complete our dining experience and leave.
Only thing I can genuinely praise is service from Katie. She was attentive, supportive, cordial and professional throughout our stay....
