Booked a table for 5.30pm, there wasn't actually a reserved table so were told to sit anywhere which was fine. Place was very quiet when we ordered our food but it took 35-40minutes for it to arrive. Food was decent, standard pub food but good nonetheless. It was a bit unpleasant people smoking right outside the open door so the smell waffed in, in future would pick a table way far away from the doors. Husband had chicken burger with katsu curry sauce on his chips, 8/10. I had the maccaroni and cheese with added chicken, was a bit suprised the chicken was just put on top and not cooked with the dish but it tasted alight 7/10.

Well whot a lovely time we had especially on a Sunday as none of our party of 9 didn't have the roast, we all had different meals , waited about a hour ,but all arrived at the same time ,table pre booked and as it was a special birthday, balloons , were put in place a few hours before by family and table was reserved, bar staff pleasant and didn't have to wait , great staff especially the lady that looked after us many thanks.

A lovely place to eat and drink. Staff are friendly. Food was fantastic and a reasonable price. A nice, cosy atmosphere. My first visit to The Nelson but definitely not my last. I was visiting for a colleagues leaving meal. I would recommend this place to everyone.

Pre ordered off the Christmas menu, very poor quality and over priced. Not restaurant quality food and wouldn't even say it was decent pub food. Starter of brie wedges like rubber, bit like the frozen foods you get at cheap freezer shops. Main was poached salmon full of bones, covered in a packet mix hollandaise sauce, which looked a strange colour and congealed .the cook must have been worried the salmon was dry so added a jug of more of the congealed sauce. Was meant to be served with roast potatoes and vegetables but came with just rice. Then charged over £24 for it. This pub could be so much better, we live locally and would eat and drink here often if it was better quality but definitely will not be returning. Staff not busy and loads of them just milling around. Think management should be taking the rains on this business before seeing it run into the ground. Response Thanks for your prompt reply Gary. Yes I am part of the Monday yoga class and didn't want to spoil the meal for the rest of the group last night so kept quiet, but that's why reviews are important to help businesses get customer feedback to improve. We were only a small group and could have been served by 2 staff. I just feel disappointed as wallasey is crying out for a decent destination pub serving quality food. The venue has been refurbished well and still has lots of character so was looking forward to trying your food since you took over. We often have lots of family get together and end up going further a field for good food. I would much rather support...

I absolutely hate giving poor reviews but I was so so disappointed yesterday with Christmas dinner . The food was really poor especially the main course it tasted like old cookery taste and to be honest the whole table didn’t eat it . We then waited two and a half hours for the pudding which arrived as we put are coats on to leave because the kids had been extremely bored for well over an hour if not more. We did repeatedly ask but got no were and sat with the dishes for those hours . Honestly I love to hype up business and I love the lady who runs the Nelson but I won’t be back for food again and I’m going to cook a second Christmas dinner at home for the family. It’s disappointing when you save to treat the family and it’s organised so poorly. I understand busy but bad food and the waiting along with hours of our table full of plates and glasses just wasn’t worth the expense. Even going to make our own dinner today to make up for it , iv read a lot of people on Facebook had the same experience. No apologies , in fact my review is the only one ignored which is sad after spending 300 pound Still months later no refund or meals as promised iv messaged the pub at least 6 times , as an autistic person I don’t find it comfortable to ring so iv reached out via message again and again and can see they all say read. At this point id like my money back like the other people got and I didn’t...

Had originally left a 4 star review but my last few visits have been dire. Went with my mum a few weeks ago as had previously had satisfying experiences here. Her chicken skewer was tough and dry, my southern friend skewer was the same, the southern fried coating was hard and over done. Put this down to an off day. Went last week with the family and when i tried ordering nachos with the toppings on the side so the kids could enjoy it, i was told the chef wont be happy as he didnt like changing meals, i insisted anyway and they were great, all the starters were to be fair. The issues came with the mains. My partners mixed grill was vile. Gammon was flavourless, sausages burnt and chicken had a wierd layer around like whatever jelly it was frozen with had just solidified and been cooked. My chick'n'mix was more disappinting than last time. Felt like the southern fried chicken skewer has been refried or cooked and was so tough and dry, it was an effort to eat. The kids meals were just as dissapointing. The hotdog buns were solid and the sausages over cooked like the mixed grill. The 'cucumber and salad sticks' was just cucumbers originally cut for a salad threw in a pot for two kids but actual sticks for the 3rd and we had to ask for the carrot sticks. Doubt we will go back, could just hear the music blaring from the kitchen every time the door opened for a dissapointing meal...
