I actually wasnt going to leave a review because I felt sorry for the staff, but after reading recent reviews I feel compelled to write something because clearly something is wrong with the management of the place.
On arrival we were told there were no seats in the restaurant (despite having booked) so we'd have to sit in the bar. Not an issue really.
We were sat close to the bar which was noisy but fine. 3 menus (crumpled pieces of a4 paper) were given to us and we ordered drinks. Drinks came after a bit of a wait at which point we were told its cash only. I haven't carried cash for a couple of years now which would have been a problem, luckily my father in law sorted it out, which was doubly embarrassing as it was meant to be our treat as they came up to help us move into our new house in Oxton.
Drinks came whilst we waited for food, which was a long time. We ordered more drinks and only 1 of them turned up. The others never arrived, well they did, but about 50 mins later.
Food did arrive but without cutlery. There was no setting the table, a bunch of knifes and forks were just dumped on the middle of the table for us to sort out. I asked for napkins and was told they didnt have any. Wow! The poor lad managed to find some by taking them off the empty tables(?) in the restaurant area.
The food....was ok! Absolutely nothing wrong with it but the dining experience was appalling. We didnt want any more drinks or to hang around for any longer so asked for the bill. My wife noticed we hadn't been charged for drinks so assumed we had been comped them to compensate for our terrible experience. But I wanted to double check they hadn't made a mistake as I didn't want the lad to get into trouble. Turns out they had made a mistake and our bill was apologetically amended (minus the 2 50 minute lemonades).
Overall it was a disaster. It was our first night as Oxton residents and not one we'll be looking to replicate. Again, I want to point out that I didnt feel like any of this was on the staff. They were fully aware and apologetic about all of the issues. But reading previous reviews this is clearly not a one off. The food was decent, so there's something to build on, but from a management perspective something needs fixing here, for the benefit of the customers AND...
Read moreI booked a table online for me and my friend to watch the England game on Sunday afternoon. As you can only book 1.5 hr slots I booked 2 slots to cover the match and phoned the pub to explain this and get both bookings on the same table. I also explained that it was to watch the game so asked if we could be in front of a TV. I was advised that this was fine. We get to the pub on the Sunday, albeit a bit late as we could not get a cab so had to walk. When we arrived we were told by the manager that our table was not in front of the TV and we would have to make do as there were no free tables despite the fact that there were free tables that we could see. We asked about these but were told they were reserved. We explained that we had reserved ours but he was not interested and said that we were late so could not have a table. He had already told us that our table was nowhere near a telly anyway, despite the fact that I had phoned to confirm it was to watch the match. Basically the manager did not care and made absolutely no attempt to accommodate us. He was rude and arrogant and we felt like we had no choice but to leave the pub. A pub that we have drunk in many times over the years and never been treated so shabbily We went down the road to the halfway house and had a completely different experience. They were courteous and polite and fitted us in. I have drunk in the queens for years and have never been treated so badly. I appreciate times are different hence the phoning ahead to ensure we got the table we wanted. There was no apology from him, it was basically take what you're given or get out!! We did get out and will not...
Read moreDined yesterday with my husband ordered chicken ham and mushroom pie, food arrived looked lovely but as I put a spoonful to my mouth I discovered as my lips started tingling that this pie must contain cheese (I have an allergy to cheese youguart and chocolate) I searched for a member of staff and found a waitress to ask could she please ask the chef what was in the pie she came back and said cheese ! I explained that there was no mention of this on the menu in fact all it said was chicken ham and mushroom pie with loose puff lid she said do you want something else I said unfortually no as I feel a bit sick she then walked off. I returned to my table no one did a check back no one asked if I was ok ? We just went home as I felt quote unwell. I just don't get why establishments don't list main ingrediants in foods for people like myself who have allergies had i actually swallowed the food I would of had a full on attack ! I spend twice as long as my friends choosing foods when we go out and I always have to play it safe when ordering as many places chick anything they want in dishes I actually thought I would be safe with a chicken pie! Please re do your descriptions on your menus to include important information after all it is the law to do so (all dishes served for public consumption must contain an acurate description of contents) yours...
