Another almost secret gem of a museum , neoclassical frontage dated within the Art Deco period is imposing . This is a small but accessible museum and art gallery but still packs a punch . We are so lucky on Merseyside to have such a variety of museums . The collections here are a rallying cry for eclecticism . Highlights for me were the maritime model collection , superb! Who wouldn't want to ring a big ships bell? Lots of ferry information and history too. The exhibiting of the locally produced ceramics is a must see as well. The museum obviously works hard at maintaining its links with the local art groups , schools and community this is the strong point of this kind of place. I try to spread the word about this place as I get the impression that it may be a little overlooked and undervalued . Helpful staff and good snacks , drinks available at reasonable prices. For those of limited mobility access is easy room to room it is well lit also in fact better than its well known sibling over the water. Parking is also easy , during our last visit there was a delightful sight of a wedding service being conducted very romantic and charming . An unusual and memorable venue? As with so many of our museums entry is free but please try to contribute whatever you can , we really can't afford to lose...
Read moreThe Williamson is an excellent gallery with varied collections in lovely surroundings and a great history, the gallery remains free to visit. There's regular classes for drop in art and craft, great for family time and often focusing on topical subjects, these are free (with a donations tub, but a donation towards the costs of materials is worth the quality family time) They often have musicians performing which is very relaxing in the gallery itself, and sometimes in the cafe. Constant updates to the collections on show so regular visits are recommended. The quad is coming along nicely and will be a great quiet spot to sit in when it is a little warmer. The parking is on site and free, with a good sized car park. Nice cafe too, with a gift shop offering unique gifts and cards. The building itself is lovely, with wheelchair access throughout. There's plenty of other classes and drop in events available. There's even a book club meeting. It is very well attended by people of all ages which indicates how entertaining it is. Also sells arts and craft supplies if a visit inspires you...
Read moreI really enjoyed my visit to the Williamson Art Gallery. The car park made it really easy for my father to access in his car. The exhibition about the space photographs was really thought provoking and inspiring. I enjoyed the collection of photographs from the Wirral Art Society. I was really impressed by how much talent is on the Wirral for such a small peninsula. The paintings were witty and it was great to see images of local places such as New Brighton and Snowdonia. I also enjoyed the exhibition with the model boats. It was interesting to see the evolution of Mersey Ferries and read about how these were repurposed in times of conflict. I thought the staff were really helpful and friendly. I took the time to visit the bookshop on the way out which contained a unique collection of local interest books. I picked up 4 books that I thought looked really interesting including one about Tranmere Rovers’ fight to return to the...
