First time visit today since Kat and chef husband Steve took over from Darren and Chris. They bring experience from running the very well-regarded Old House at Home in Broadwater to the Alex, and today indicated a very good replacement for the lads. My companion and l had a vg Harvey's and my lunchtime standby, Barefoot white Zinfandel, nicely chilled, and two really good beef burgers with cheese and bacon, plus skin-on fries. Good size excellent burger, fries just as they should be, not greasy, crispy outside, fluffy inside. We admired the tomato relish so much we asked for two more pots! Kat has a lovely sense of humour and, in spite of her and Steve currently putting in 16-hour days, you wouldn't know it.
The pub's had a little refresh inside, and remains immaculate. We're so pleased much of the original menu's been kept as the Sunday roasts were huge and delicious. What is so nice is that all the food's made fresh, not hauled in and frozen until micro-nuked.
Great start, Kat and Steve. We'll be seeing lots more of you! Jon (and...
Read moreAs this has been our first time out since lockdown my best friend and I wanted to cone to your pub to enjoy the gardens and have a few drinks and food, to which we all enjoyed very much until the last drinks that we ordered were not the same as the previous drinks that we had as we kept them the same.
We explained and called over to get the manager whom argued with us and was basically telling us that we were wrong and he was right even though it was different the last 5 were served in clear glases palma violet with aromatic tonic on side, the last 2 were served in pink glasses with no tonic on the side and the manager argued with us that it was palma violet when we know it wasn't and just trying to discuss it and charge more and was very rude with his service.
And shall not be going back there again, I suggest any one that goes remember the manager is always right and not...
Read moreFor someone who use to work there, i would never recommend this pub to anyone. Firstly, The roast dinners you had on the 9th of June 2024 were in fact all microwaved because the oven was broken and the food was not a fresh stocked. Secondly, The chefs also would use the same utensils after they had dropped them on the floor. (I was in the kitchen when this happened and the chef said shut the door so no one sees) how grim. Thirdly, The Boss would let customers tabs go over £1000 pound at a time, would sit down with these two individuals and drink whiles meant to be on shift. He also would get angry at me for my partner to bring me food as i had been working from 4pm. Fourthly, He would shout and be disrespectful towards his workers, He would even slag every one of his customers off to me. Fifthly, He tried to firer me for my partner being a paying...
