The Egremont Pub — Restaurant in Worthing

Only found out about this place recently! Very friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Food menu has good variety but the prices are on par with a restaurant. I've had the cod and chips, which were okay, and the veggie burger so far.

Recommended for its nice atmosphere and excellent gin menu.

Downgrading to 3 stars.

The lunch specials aren't good value for money. This is especially true with the pasta.

I had a vegetarian spaghetti dish with tomatoes and olives. Except there weren't any tomatoes or olives to be found. As I ordered quite late, about 10 minutes before the kitchen closed, I didn't bother raising it with staff. This dish, along with chips, cost £10.50.

Speaking of staff, they're an interesting mix. The ones who served me before were polite and friendly.

But today I interacted with new staff members. Their service and attitude left me not wanting to return.

One staff member was particularly annoying with their loud, inane chatter. I understand that one needs to keep themselves entertained when there isn't much customer traffic. But this one was grating.

Come in the evenings for gin but don't expect value for money. Or consistency...

We attended a Christmas meal here on the 15/12 /19 , organised by a friend of ours who went to the trouble of arranging the event and paying the pre-booking fee , there was a real lack of organization on behalf of the egremont as there was no tables reserved for the occasion, the seating arrangements were all jumbled up and there wasn’t even spaces for everyone in attendance , so the situation was to wait it out for tables to free up , there were two very young children there too , our friend went to a lot of trouble to organize the event and felt let down by the lack of professionalism on the part of the egremont, the staff waiting on us were fine but the host was upset by the whole thing , we all had a good time but that’s not the point, we had to cheer our friend up and that shouldn’t have to be the case, the pre-booking fee was also forgotten about and the bill had to be revised, should mention the food was actually quite good , please have more consideration when taking large bookings , not good...

Wish we'd got to sample these highly rated "Amazing Roasts!!!" My partner called to check availability for lunch and was told yes come on down. We were not even 10 minutes away. By the time we entered the bar and had spoken with the bar staff members no one had a recollection of the phone call "booking" at all, actually confusing us with another booking for a couple with two children? So off she went to check with her Manager. Yes you're table will be ready it's just being "Wiped Down" have a drink whilst you're waiting. We waited 10-15 minutes in the bar waiting for the table wipe down. I returned to the bar to politely enquire on how things were progressing, the two bar staff I spoke didn't have a clue I was waiting and again went to speak to the Manager whilst we sat back down to finish our drinks. After no member of staff returned we gave up waiting and walked out. Friendly but really poor customer service. Really poor!! Oh and the couple with the two kids arrived after us and were seated...
