China Lodge — Restaurant in Wyre Forest

Went here with my partner tonight for an early valentines meal, I booked a table, didn’t wait long to be seated considering they were very busy with take away orders and in the restaurant, we were served very quickly, all drinks were brought to us within 2-3 minutes of ordering, the food was all amazing, we had the Szechuan feast set meal for 2, it was some of if not the best Chinese food I’ve ever had, seemed very fresh, all showed up hot/ warm, any time we had an empty glass/ plate it was cleaned up within 2 minutes, any drink we ordered showed up within a minute or 2, the staff were very attentive but I didn’t feel like they were staring at us either, we waited a maximum of 10 minutes between courses which we were more then happy with considering the quality of the food, this was my second time eating here, but the first time I went was my birthday meal with family so I was a bit too distracted to appreciate how amazing the service was, the food was amazing the first time too hence why I suggested it tonight to my partner, we’ll definitely be back and be recommending here to others, I can’t fault a thing. Also, when I visited for my birthday meal it was in between lockdowns and I remember it being the only restaurant to check my temperature and everyone else’s upon entry, were clearly sanitising everything, and really made us feel safe during a more intense time of the...

China lodge isn’t a new place to us, we are regular customers and usually we are never short of a 5 star review. We have recommended every friend and family member we have to this restaurant but after tonight we will NEVER return!!! 9 of us came to dine tonight however 2 of us received our starters before the rest of the group and actually finished them before anyone else’s came out. We simply requested that our main meals all came out together but were greeted by the rudest waitress I have ever encountered. I don’t think asking for all of our food to come at the same time is a huge request for a restaurant do you? She then stropped off to the bar and was clearly talking about us to the other waitresses as they were talking and pointing at our table. We carried on with our night but were then approached by management who asked us to leave due to our “threat” to not pay our bill!!?? This waitress had obviously gone over and made up a complete lie! As I said we are regular customers who use China Lodge on a weekly basis, we also have a newborn baby with us - don’t think it would be easy to do a runner with a newborn in tow!! The manager apologised for accusing us but the damage had already been done and we left with no plans...

Really, really disappointed. This used to be one of our favourite places. 11 of us dined in. Service seemed to start quite well when our orders were taken, but soon changed. Went through our orders with the table, but when they arrived, we had 2 more mains than we asked for. Reluctantly they were taken back, but when the bill came out they were on there. We challenged this, but ending up in an argument with waitress strongfully adement we ordered them, despite them going back and nobody eating them! We 100% didn't order these.

The food was OK, but not as good as usual. 3 of us had a set menu, including duck pancakes, but only had 4 pancakes in total, 3 chicken currys had almost no chicken in them at all (all mushroom), and only 3 prawns in the other shared starter dish, so one prawn each! The bill came to over £390, including nearly £30 service charge and the 2 extra chicken currys we didn't have.
