International Kitchen is hands-down the best Chinese restaurant in Aberdeen. The interior is cozy and well decorated, so it’s easy to sit back and relax as you eat your affordably-priced food that tastes wonderful and is obviously made with great love. The two people who run it, although I do not know them personally, are very hard-working and polite people who try their hardest to understand you and provide you with fast service. The portion sizes here are perfect -- and in fact sometimes I almost feel they’ve been too generous to me for what I’ve paid!
Although they have many great and varied options, my recommendation is the simple beef and broccoli platter, which comes with side of rice. It pairs really well with their Vietnam Coffee, and warms the soul -- especially on chilly days!
International Kitchen
Read moreI've been a fan of IK since it opened near NSU and have introduced many people to it, but after the experience I had today, I will not go again.
Yesterday, I ordered the Chicken Chow Mein lunch special. I had never tried Chow Mein before, and the menu didn't have pictures, so I looked up the difference between Lo Mein (which I love) and Chow Mein. I've attached a screen shot of results, as well as a screen shot showing the difference between the two.
But Chicken Chow Mein at IK is NOT Chow Mein. Instead of fried noodles , they do some kind of weird boiled cabbage dish.
When I took it back, the lady practically yelled at me that it WAS Chow Mein. When I asked where the noodles were, she said there aren't any noodles in Chow Mein. I wanted to switch my order, but she said that all the old people in town love it and I should try it.
It's too bad, I was a fan. But being yelled at about what I ordered is the end. Real customer service would have replaced the dish with something else or given...
Read moreWonderful authentic hole-in-the-wall Chinese/Asian restaurant and worth the wait!
Dined in and ordered the chef special tom yum seafood soup, dumplings, and Sichuan beef. The soup was large enough to feed two and the dumplings were fresh and juicy. The Sichuan beef was more Americanized and sweet than expected, but it was still tasty.
Several takeout orders were filled and the phone was ringing a lot while waiting for our food—this place is popular! Again, definitely worth the wait and the woman running the the show (taking orders and serving food) was friendly and good at what she does!
Next time I’m in town I will definitely want to return for...
